Marshall & The Fro........ "Infectious as Hell" - Sam Fell, RHYTHMS MAGAZINE
Marshall & the Fro create Aussie-Mojo workin Rock-Roots music...Music that feels so natural and so comfortable, it's like slipping into your favourite pair of double plugger’s and heading down to the pub for a coldie. Comprised of Marshall O’Kell on Guitar, Slide guitar, & Vocals, Nick Ohlson on Bass and Jacob Mann on Drums, Marshall & the Fro are a refreshing modern Face, generating a Progressive Roots Rock energy.
Featuring Marshall’s Delta edged vocals, muddy slide guitar and massive driving rhythms from Nick and Jake, the bands music moves through the rich, raw and dirty to the sweet and melodic. Big rock rhythms, filthy licks mixed with a enigmatic, high energy stage presence the band has an appeal beyond conscious control. From the first sound audiences are drawn in …heads turn, feet tap, butts shake, body’s sweat, endorphins flow … before you know it you are totally absorbed in the Marshall & the Fro thing.
Hailing from Byron Bay NSW and with a rapidly growing fan base, the past year has seen Marshall & the Fro solidly booked at premier venues and festivals around Australia. Regularly packing out The Backroom Byron Bay and the Solbar Coolum Beach, and performing at Byron Bay's East Coast Blues & Roots Festival, Broadbeach Blues Festival, Festival of the Sun, The Australian Blues Festival, Wonderland, Queenscliff, & the Apollo Bay music Festivals, the band has worked along side some of the biggest names around including Ben Harper, WolfMother, Joss Stone, Bonnie Rait, Mia Dyson, Gotye, Xavier Rudd, Ash Grunwald and Dallas Frasca.
Marshall & the Fro have recently released their self titled debut album and film clip for feature track 'Thongs'. Proving popular with supporters a number of tracks from the album have received real industry recognition whereby Marshall & the Fro are starting to create deserved credibility within the Australian music industry.
Some of the Bands Achievements over the year have been attainment of a D’Addario Platinum Endorsement, the Bluestar Best Bass Player Australasia Award, resident top five positioning in myspace Blues and myspace Roots Top Artists charts for some twelve months, regular JJJ air play and Overseas airplay in Europe, Canada and the US.
