"We are advertis'd by our loving friends."
William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616)
"Wisdom doesn't automatically come with old age. Nothing does - except wrinkles. It's true, some wines improve with age. But only if the grapes were good in the first place."
Abigail Van Buren (1918 - )
"As we grow old…the beauty steals inward."
Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 - 1882)
Music
It would be easier to ask what my favorites are for each genre. Some of my favorites are: Norah Jones, Tony Bennet, Steven Curtis Chapman, Chris Rice, Harry Connick Jr., Third Day, Big Tent Revival, Kenny Chesney, Alabama, Alan Jackson, Allison Krause and Union Station, Nickel Creek, Jimmy Buffet, Def Leppard (which I never listen to anymore, but every time I hear one of their songs in passing I am transported down memory lane), building429, Glenn Kaiser, Mylon LeFevre on occasion, Rita Springer, Darlene Zchech (I don't even know how to pronounce it let alone spell her last name...I just like her sound!), ummm......let's see......I like some jazz, some blues- but not the "poor is me" kind, I love Salsa music, I love anything you can ballroom dance to, I really love opera if it's well done........I could go on and on...oh, I guess I did already.....well, you wanted to know or you never would've read this far, right? Ok.
Movies
Pride and Prejudice is by far my most favorite movie, but there are several others worth mentioning: 50 First Dates, Secondhand Lions, Shall We Dance, Strictly Ballroom, The Italian Job, Fools Rush In, Mickey Blue Eyes, Oscar, Demolition Man, The Rock, Passenger 57, Notting Hill, White Christmas, The Patriot, Mr. Holland's Opus, Dangerous Minds, Take the Lead, Cliffhanger, Happy Gilmore, The Freshman, Jungle to Jungle (esp. the initiation scene with the tongue-thing during the credits...it cracks me up!), My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Little Women, The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, Narnia, ...uummmmm...ok, I will leave it at that since I'm losing the flow of movie thought, but there are hundreds more I know it...like The Princess Bride....well, I tried...(hahaha anybody want a peanut?)
**Just for the record, in my opinion, Gone With the Wind was the single most ridiculously drawn out excuse for a good movie I have ever seen! I don't even think I made it through the first half hour of that movie before I wanted to choke the living snot out of Scarlett O'Hara for being the whiniest, weaseliest, most pathetic excuse for a southern belle! (And that is all I have to say about THAT!) :)**
Go Lorelai!
Plus also, I like CSI, 24, Monk, Antiques Roadshow, the Amazing Race and American Idol
Books
Some of my favorites are: the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Rivers, The Last Sin Eater, The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo, Captivating... and that's without touching the classics and so many others. Oh yeah, I am always up for a Calvin and Hobbes book!
Heroes
SINGLE MOMs...people who make you laugh just because they can......people unafraid to show who they really are...and Calvin of course......
"I love the Lord because He hears my prayers and answers them. Because He bends down and listens, I will pray as long as I breathe!" - Psalm 116:1-2
Some day I would love to travel the world like Adam's sister and her husband have spent the last year doing. Check out their stories and amazing pictures on their blog:
You are the military mom and you certainly wear the boots around your camp! You can't stand the thought of raising spoiled brats and you are not afraid to put your foot down. You make sure that your children are well equipped to live strong independent lives when they grow up and infact you see this as the whole reason you are a parent in the first place.
Who I'd like to meet: The person responsible for creating all those beautiful paint sample cards...they make me happy...
I love living in the Willamette Valley, but my heart will always be in Montana. I recently received this little poem from a friend currently living there and it made me grin...........because it's absolutely true! Here ya go:
Why I Love Montana
When it's winter in Montana
And the gentle breezes blow
About seventy miles an hour
And it's fifty two below,
You can tell you're in Montana
'cause the snow's up to your butt,
And when you take a breath of pristine air,
your nose holes both freeze shut.
The weather here is wonderful,
So I guess I'll hang around.
I could never leave Montana!!!
My feet are frozen to the ground.
Thanks Robbin!
Now, being well known as a crafty mama (hence the nickname "martha mcgiver) I found this absolutely hilarious and will be posting it in a bulletin as soon as I finish embedding it here for all of your viewing pleasure. Check it out:
Brooklyn and I just went to the Olive Garden down there. I took my friend down there to see her grandson who is in foster care. It gave me and the baby something to do.
