  • Bio

Martin Alex Aucoin, originally from Cape Breton, moved to Toronto in order to study jazz at Humber College. Upon graduation, he immediately immersed himself in the blues and R'B scene in the city, playing and recording with Juno award winning artists Morgan Davis and Jack Dekeyser. He was a member of the soca/reggae pioneers "T-4", and was a co-founder of the jazz/fusion group "Konstant Flux" for which he was the main composer. His interest in roots music, songwriting, and a desire to play more in the studio led him to Nashville, TN. It was a natural fit for Martin as he racked up playing credits with BJ Thomas, Tony Joe White, Vassar Clements, Alan Jackson, Larry Carlton, and a host of country music legends he met while playing on the Grand Ol' Opry for 4 years with the great Cajun artist, Jimmy C. Newman. Pursuing a career in the studios, he played on countless recording sessions, doing demos for Garth Brooks, George Strait, Confederate Railroad, John Michael Montgomery, and many great Nashville songwriters. Family matters brought him back to Toronto, where he has re-established himself in the studios and the blues/jazz scene. He has finally taken the time to record his first album as an artist. Entitled "So Far", it is a cynical, skeptical, and comedic outlook on personal relationships set to a jazz/blues groove. It features great solos by Alex Dean (sax/flute), Steve McDade (trumpet) and Martin himself. This year, Martin is an award nominated musician, having scored nods for the Maple Blues Awards (for songwriter and producer) and the East Coast Music Awards (best jazz album) for his album "So Far". As well, he is a nominee for the 2008 Juno Awards for his work as keyboard player/producer/songwriter on the Johnny Max Band album "A Lesson I've Learned".
