   About Martin & Lynn Craig

Martin & Lynn have been singing together for over 40 years... we met at art school in Newcastle in 1964 and discovered common musical interests ranging from traditional Scots/Irish ballads through blues, R&B, jazz and country to early rock'n'roll.

After moving to Liverpool in 1965, we formed an acoustic folk-rock group called the Bo-Weevils. The UK folk circuit was developing then, but we also played in places like the Merseyside Artistes Association, competing with jugglers and comedians in ruthless talent contests.

When we moved back to Newcastle in the late 1960s, we fell straight into the 'Jesmond scene', living in that bohemian area of Tyneside for 17 years; playing our music, working and raising a family. During the 1970s, Martin's band The Sabrejets were signed to Blueport Music, releasing several of Martin's compositions on vinyl. Radioland reached Time Out magazine's Top 5, it received extensive Radio One airplay and was picked up in the USA by Greg Shaw; the Britbike anthem Rockin' at the Ace Cafe charted in Ireland and in the Sounds Rockabilly Chart, At the Quayside was a Radio Luxembourg Powerplay and Voodoo Cave was popular in Germany & Scandinavia. All the Sabrejets singles were broadcast into the former Soviet Union from clandestine radio stations in Norway & Sweden.

Although Martin has played in several bands as well as recording and performing solo, we have always sung together, as folk singers and as the acoustic duo MG & LYNNETTE with our show 'The Acoustic Roots of Rock'n'Roll'.

album coverLYNN CRAIG: Greenwood Side (Goldmist, UK)

Lynn & Martin Craig performed many of these traditional songs as teenage folk-rockers in Liverpool, England in the 1960s. 'Greenwood Side' re-creates their one-take, live to tape, sugar-free sound from those heady times.

Hey! How's the weather over there? I just want to let you know that i'm coming to the UK in late May/early June to play bass with Kevin Montgomery and Tommy Allsup. Tommy played guitar with Buddy Holly, and is THE guy that flipped the coin with Ritchie Valens. I figured that with you being a musician that you would really be able to appreciate this show. Kevin made a little video at my studio last week while we were recording....check it out http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=34589518
There are a series of shows in England and Scotland....dates are on my myspace.
We won't be doing my material, but it is a really special show, and Tommy is a true rock'n'roll legend.
Anyway, take care and hope to see you there.

Good evening! I'll be starting a tour in the UK next week, and wanted to let you know.
You may have heard my guitar playing and not even realized it was me. I played with Buddy Holly, and when you listen to "It's So Easy" or "Heartbeat"...well, that is me.
We will play some of the Buddy Holly songs that i played on so many years ago, and a few more! I might even sing a couple.
I hope you can make one of the dates?
Best,
Tommy Allsup

Hi guys! Thanks for the comment."The Leaving of Liverpool". When I was a young teenager I stood outside a girls house and sang that at the top of my voice. With all the wisdom of a thirteen year old I forgot about the time. Woke the whole family up!! Slick move that one!! Enyoyed the music, Keep smiling ---- AL.
