On Martin Chalks debut EP, After You, this Scottish-raised artist, now transplanted into the Deep South in Charleston, SC, delivers acoustic/rock/pop without sacrificing substance. This cohesive collection of material nods its head with rock guitars, pop choruses and acoustic drive all moving effortlessly together towards a message of undoubting faith.
Born and raised in Paisley, Scotland, Martin Chalk was surrounded by live music from an early age. His family, all consisting of musicians, began teaching him guitar when he was only eight. Once his music started to develop, Martin took his music all over the world including the United Kingdom, Africa, and Europe. In 1998, Chalk moved to the United States to continue his work.
During the early months of 2005, Chalk united with local up-and-coming producer Eric Bass to bring his music into the light with a collection of recordings. Included on the EP are songs It's Alright, a song about accepting that it is fine to sit down and enjoy the now, and I'm Free, which speaks of forgiveness and new starts in life, each giving the listener something that they can relate too.
Although Chalk has been creating music for years, After You is definitely the start of a new rousing journey. While keeping an acoustic base, the songs incorporate a wide range of influences that color the songs with unique ideas while reflecting heart felt emotions that speak of real life with an authentic message that stirs the soul.
