The dreamlike playing quartet of Martin Dahanukar has in Vinz Vonlanthen a guitarist who bears ever suggesting and atmospheric sounds. Samuel Joss' bass rings depths and opens space and times for the airy drumming by Peter Horisberger.
The quartet just released its 2nd recording „Garuda“. Its music evokes the breath of the tide, creating emptiness and glowing moods. It murmurs as a camera obscura exposure - and echoes an asia like landscape sunken at night.

Trumpeter and composer Martin Dahanukar was born in Munich to parents of Indian and Swiss-German origin, having great affection towards arts.
He grew up in the cities of Munich, Bombay, Zurich and Berne.
From early age on, music draw his main interest. Martin first took up electric guitar at age 12, being strongly influenced by rock music. Playing this “talking drum instrument” quickly opened doors to many sound spheres of different cultures.
Jazz, itself a music of multiple sources, turned out to shape Martin Dahanukar's diverse cultural identity to the closest. First an autodidact, Martin Dahanukar completed his studies at the Music College of Lucerne.
From age 20 onward, he has started giving continuous performances throughout Switzerland and abroad - India, Germany. His discography over the last 11 years spans six recordings under his name. Martin Dahanukar's jazz – which partly echoes sounds from India - bears strong far eastern influences. His new and 2nd quartet CD “Garuda” on Unit Records is an essence of his so far musical experience.>>>
Martin Dahanukar feels inspired by Indian music as well. Especially singers like
Ustad Ali Ghulam Khan, Amir Khan, Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar and M.S. Subbulaksmi are an influence to him. But so too are Sarangi player Ram Narayan as well as godfather sitarist Ustad Vilayat Khan.
Western classical composers such as Bartok, Messiaen or Ligeti are also eminent sources of inspiration. This cycle closes itself including the godfathers of jazz composition.
