Danish singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist and author. First record release at the age of 17 with post-punk avantgarde ensemble Ballet Mécanique whose album ‘The Icecold Waters of the Egocentric Calculation’ is regarded as a cornerstone in contemporary Danish music history. Since then Hall has released a series of albums, singles and tapes ranging from sheer industrial terror (‘Inskription’) to neo-classical recordings (‘Das Mechanische Klavier’), a line of books on major publishing labels as well as several magazines and anthologies. During the eighties Hall studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. Ever since then he has been working with visual art, cover designs and video installations. Apart from being involved in a line of bands such as Under For, Before, No Knox and SS-Say during the period, he also worked with several Danish theatre groups as well as establishing his own ensemble The Art Ensemble Of Copenhagen. Received the prestigious 3-year grant from The National Fund for the Endowment of The Arts in 1995 which enabled him to record and release ‘Random Hold’, an album regarded as own of the best Danish records made during the nineties (the title also figures on the Danish rock encyclopedia Politiken’s list over the 50 most important Danish rock releases ever). Apart from the records made during his solo career Hall has also written the music for a line of films, theatre performances and art exhibitions. As an example Hall’s musical score for Gladsaxe Teater's 2002 launch of ‘Lady of the Camellias’ (the ‘Camille’ Soundtrack) was proclaimed as one of his finest works ever. His collaboration with Swedish artist Ingvar Cronhammer include highlights such as the inauguration performance for the ‘Elia’ installation as well as the musical setting for the exhibition ‘Racing Cars – The Art Dimension’ at the Danish art museum ARoS (the museum's most visited exhibition ever). Hall was included in Kraks Blaa Bog (Krak's Blue Book) in May 2003, the same year in which he founded the label Panoptikon to secure the flow and artistic freedom in his productions. In 2005 he received his literary breakthrough with the novel ‘Den Sidste Romantiker’ ('The Last Romantic'), a monumental 700-pages piece of work reflecting a young man’s journey from the summer of 1980 up until the time of the book’s release. In February 2006 MH released the solo album ‘Facsimile’ (at the time his first album as a singer in seven years) which was praised by an unanimous press as his finest work in 25 years. In 2007 he released the box set ‘Catalogue (Martin Hall 1980-2007)’ and in 2008 he released the book ‘Infodemens’ ('Infodementia') as well as making his motion picture debut in the Danish film ‘Flammen & Citronen’ ('The Flame & The Lemon'). Most recently Hall has released the critically acclaimed ‘Hospital Cafeterias’ from 2009. He is currently writing on a new novel with expected release during the autumn of 2010. MH has received several artistic honour awards, but has continually refused to formalize or standardize his works. As a writer he's been translated into several European languages.
