Marie Martin is a french singer/songwriter using her personal experiences, relationships and travels to New York, London and her native Brittany as her main inspirations.
She is a true picture of her work: between modernity and nostalgia, between soul and jazz.
How it all began :
Marie was born and grew up in Brittany in the western part of France in a very musical family. She began her career playing classical violin and singing. She also danced jazz, hip-hop, modern and classical dance.
However, Marie decided to concentrate mainly on her singing. She took classes in jazz singing - the last being in Paris where she moved to at the age of 19 in order to develop artistically. Well arrived in Paris, Marie accompanied several bands and artists both as a backup singer and as a violinist in legendary clubs and concert halls such as "l'Opus Café", " le Duc des Lombards", "le Sentier des Halles", "le Réservoir", "la Scène Bastille" ...
She has lent her vocals to soul-funk bands such as "Kitchenfunk" (Warner Music) and "Legalizik" with whom she toured across France. She is equally a backup singer for record labels such as Sony, EMI and Virgin.
Marie has further more had the chance to lend her voice to several film soundtracks. Notably "36, quai des Orfèvres" (starring Gérard Depardieu) and "Prête moi ta main" (starring Charlotte Gainsbourg and Alain Chabat). For this last film, she composed wrote and interpreted one of the theme songs.
She has also worked with most of the main french TV-channels (TF1, France2, France3 and M6) and several films and variety shows.
Finding her artistic identity :
Always curious to find new inspiration, Marie decided to move to London in 2004 - a dream she had had for some time. She worked with Rap artists and recorded a musical fairytale for children. Most importantly however, it was in London that she decided to establish herself as a singer/songwriter.
Back in Paris the following year, she embarked on this new adventure.
Using her artistic training and personal experiences she now composes, writes and sings her own material.
Her work reflects her diverse tastes, her open mindness and international outlook.
