This new 'Collectors’ Choice Music' exclusive brings you the only recording that has surfaced of the folk group that Marty Balin sung in before the Jefferson Airplane, the Town Criers! Formed in the backroom of the S.F. folk club The Drinking Gourd in the Summer of 1963, The Town Criers (Balin, Bill Collins, Jan Ellickson and Larry Vargo) played the club circuit for a year before breaking up and Balin, no doubt drawing on this experience, subsequently opened his club The Matrix. The rest is history, informatively recounted here by band member Bill Collins along with pictures from his private archives. Includes 'Daddy Roll ’Em; 900 Miles; Virgin Mary; Go Home to the Valley; Hellbound Train; The Lesson; 99 Years to Go', and 'Jubilee'. Marty proves to be quite the raconteur as he introduces each song…a missing chapter in the Airplane saga!

You may see some new faces in the band, you may see some old faces in the band.
You might see an entirely new jazz band and Marty in a tuxedo singing big band versions of his hits!
We have some BIG surprises in store for 2009! It's a new year ...and a new sound!
Marty Balin is the founder of The Jefferson Airplane.
His voice is the instrument that helped establish the band with the song "Today" in the Monterey Pop film. the FM classic "Volunteers" in the Woodstock movie and "The Other Side Of This Life" in the Maysles Brothers film "Gimme Shelter". Marty and his Jefferson Airplane appeared at the three major rock festivals, Monterey, Woodstock and Altamont.
When the Jefferson Starship initially launched the only Top 40 hits they had for the first few years were Marty Balin's renditions of "Miracles", "Count On Me", "Runaway" and "With Your Love." Marty actually practiced a version of "Jane" which would have been entirely different from what was released by Marty's friend, Mickey Thomas of The Elvin Bishop Group, and the new "Jefferson" Starship.

After leaving Jefferson Starship Marty went on to have solo hits with "Hearts" and "Atlanta Lady on EMI. The Balin and Lucky albums on EMI are classics, as is the Bodacious BF project on RCA and the third EMI disc, Rock Justice, which is also a movie about to be released for the first time on DVD.
