Rock Music, photography and combining the two. I also go storm chasing around the mid-west of the US some years - thousands of miles of driving for a few minutes of adrenalin pumping excitement, but fantastic fun. I enjoy travelling, and with my wife we take several trips to the US every year on holiday or attending rock festivals and concerts.
Music
I love most 'classic' heavy rock music. I've been a huge Rush fan since the mid 1970's. I also like Mott The Hoople/Ian Hunter, Journey, Tyketto, Jimmy Barnes, Jeff Scott Soto, Thunder, The Illegal Eagles and multitudes of others too numerous to mention. My wife and I go to at least a couple of gigs a month and have clocked up many hundreds of shows over the years.
Fortunately, I've become good friends with a lot of musicians through my photography, and the opportunities I now get to take pictures of them in concert adds greatly to my enjoyment of my favourite music.
Movies
Blues Brothers, Star Wars (all of 'em) Star Trek (most of 'em), XXX, The Quiet Man, The Wedding Singer, anything with Meg Ryan or Drew barrymore in, Alien(s), Dune (although the book is so much better)
Television
Was a big Star Trek Next Generation fan, and avidly followed the X Files for a while. Currently a big fan of LOST and Heroes. Other TV includes 24, all the CSIs, Dr Who, Torchwood (hmmm...can you see a theme here?)
When not watching mystery based sci-fi etc I also watch a lot of natural history documentaries. Programs like Planet Earth and The Blue Planet, Walking with Dinosaurs/Beasts/Cavemen, and any odd program to do with the weather, volcanoes, earthquakes, paleontology, archaeology etc.
Books
As far as fiction is concerned I tend to stick with good quality science fiction (eg the Dune series by Frank Herbert, Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham, or anything at all by Isaac Asimov - in my opinion one of the most underrated yet prolific authors ever). However, I mostly read non fiction - science, natural history, travel etc.
I'm getting acquainted with some of Bill Bryson's travel diaries.
As a fan of Rush, I was also naturally attracted to books by Neil Peart (the drummer). I enjoyed 'Travelling Music' and his more recent book 'Roadshow - A Concert Tour by Motorcycle' - it's a fascinating account of his adventures on the backroads of the USA and Europe, travelling between gigs on a motorbike.
About me: I'm a photographer living and working in Swindon, England. I carry out various photography assignments, including weddings, portraits and rock music concert photography.
