Sam Amidon, producer writes:
Mary Alice Amidon is a renowned folksinger from southern Vermont. She is part of the legendary folksinging duo Peter & Mary Alice Amidon who have released many classic albums over the last 25 years. This is her first solo album, and it's so awesome. She sings six original songs, covers Tom Waits and Iris Dement, and performs many classic & rare traditional folk songs, all backed by a crack backing band including Keith Murphy & Ross Bellenoit on guitars, Corey DiMario on Bass, Stefan Amidon on drums, Zara Bode on backing vocals, and Peter Amidon on trombone, and others. the album veers effortlessly from electric blues to old-time gospel to delicate folk in seconds. And the girl can sing!
Your new cd is amazing - We love it! It has so much to offer- great taste, variety, awesome musicianship and creative arrangements, inspirational choice of material, and gorgeous delivery and vocals. It's a beautiful project - congratulations! Hope to see you down the road.
Thanks for the add, Mary Alice. I see you and Peter about every year at Old Songs -- and even better, I get to hear you lead the song workshops from my post at Performer Check-in/Hospitality. Also, congrats to you both for having such incredibly musical off-spring.
Bjork's producer has this cd in his car cd player and likes it! Composer Nico Muhly of current Carnegie Hall performance of his works likes it too, says Samamidon from his recent visit to Iceland.
