Originally a native of Saginaw, Michigan, Mary now resides in Detroit, MI.
Music has been Mary's "life" since the age of nine.
Initially, she began taking piano lessons and later expanded to vocal lessons. Over the course of time, she began to play, direct, and sing in various choirs. It was during high school when she received an award for best vocalist and after receiving a full tuition talent scholarship, she realized that she had a God given talent and voice.
She earned a Bachelor's in Vocal Music Education and a
Master's in Education Administration from
Wayne State University - Detroit, MI
and currently teaches Vocal Music at Thompson Middle School in
Southfield, MI. She is also the Minister of Music for Scott Memorial UMC and member of Dr. Dorinda Clark Cole's Singers and Musicians Choir.
One of her first memorable experiences was being selected
and performing before a live studio audience as one of five
"gospel diva" finalists on the nationally syndicated "Bobby
Jones Show", which aired on BET March 2000.
Soon after this event Mary began writing her own music.
It was a natural process that led her to the realization that
"my purpose" is to provide music that will free the souls of God's people.
The completion of Mary's Debut CD Project "Take One Look" was
a long time coming but at the same time, everything moved so quickly.
The 1st release from the new CD "Take It Away" talks about letting the old man die away and allowing the new man to live and have authority over your life. It's about being more like Jesus, which is the goal of every child of God.
"Lord I want to be used by thee, but first you must do a work
in me. All that's within me that's not like thee, Lord,
TAKE IT AWAY."
Mary has been fortunate to travel and minister in song in many Gospel events such as, “The Bobby Jones Gospel Retreat” in Las Vegas, Nevada and the “Gospel Super Fest” in Atlanta, Georgia. She also had the privilege of opening for “The Family Affair Gospel Tour” featuring Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s, and Evelyn Turrentine-Agee and Damon Little; Nu Beginning in Lafayette, Louisiana; Ce Ce Winans in Jonesboro, Arkansas and Shirley Caesar in Saginaw, Michigan. Mary also ministered in song at the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) National Convention in Tampa, Florida. Singing at the kick-off celebration at the 2004 Stellar Awards in Houston, Texas was truly an unforgettable experience. She also had the honor of winning the New Artist Showcase Best Soloist Award from the Dorinda Clark-Cole Singers & Musicians Conference 2005. Most recently, Mary had the opportunity to minister in song for two TBN Network Tapings on "Praise the Lord. As of now, Mary is completing her sophomore project entitled Reflections. This project truly demonstrates the gift God has given Mary to share with others. It shares her personal experiences and is sure to encourage others. The inspiring message, exceptional musical style, and uninhibited praise and worship of this project were realized in a Live Recording November 17, 2007.
The Reflections project was released in May 2008 and is available for purchase by clicking on the link below.
It is certainly a genuine and clear reflection of Mary.
