Georgian-turned-New Yorker Mary Bragg has been playing her Americana tunes around the country for five years, and just completed her second album, "Sugar", which Performing Songwriter Magazine calls "delectable folk-pop delivered in a crystalline voice reminiscent of Mindy Smith and Shawn Colvin." LMNOP.com says “this young lady sure knows how to deliver a tune.” Her song “Let Me” received an honorable mention in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition, and she was also one of ten finalists in the 2009 Wildflower Festival Performing Songwriter Competition. Mary appeared at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s Emerging Artists showcase this July and is also working on material for her third album.
Brooklyn-based Mary Bragg releases her second album, Sugar, with the poise and strength of a pro. Nationally released on May 28, 2009, Sugar fills your ears with the warmth of your most-loved tunes with its rich, full melodies and strong lyrics. The result of a long-standing desire to produce an unmistakably glowing product filled with songs that move and inspire its listeners, Sugar is no doubt just that. Collaborating primarily with bass player/husband Jimmy Sullivan, this record is a small taste of what the pair is capable of.
Her career began in Athens, Georgia, as an Americana singer-songwriter where she studied music and journalism at the University of Georgia.
Hailing from a small south Georgia town, she emerged on the New York scene '04 with her striking voice, guitar, and a few hundred copies of her first album, Certain Simple Things. She began knocking on doors and singing wherever she could, and persistence led to regular gigs at The Living Room, Rockwood Music Hall, Pete's Candy Store, The Bitter End and the former CBGB.
