Maryen Cairns, singer/songwriter, was based in London for a decade but now lives off the grid in the hinterland of Queensland, Australia, in an ecologically friendly yurt, with her husband and 4 young children. Her journey has taken her from London's smokey recording studios (2 solo albums, "The Pictures Within" released in 1992 and "For Eternity" released in 1994) through the USA to Sydney where she ran Sydney Songwriters (the first All Original songwriters night in Sydney) from 2002 - 2004 and self releasing "Stories From Beneath" in 2004, before moving up North. Maryen is the instigator of The Mfest - an annual festival celebrating Motherhood - which started in 2007. Check out www.mfest.info .
Maryen is passionate about freedom of choice, which includes a woman's right to give birth as she choses - which ultiimately in her case is at home. The song "Homebirth" has been turned into a slideshow featuring photographer Deirdrie Cullen's photographs. You can watch it NOW (September 2009) on YouTube - here it is!
Here are some photos from The Mfest 2008!
Another Way is such an upbeat and uplifting tune. I think more like that would give the young pretenders a run for their money. Your page is looking good. xxx
