I'm interested in most everything Real, all over the World. Long known for not talking about anything but archaeology, but I'm trying to improve...Mostly I care about: Geology/geography, history/culture/languages, architecture, botany, cats, birds, reptiles, forestry, agriculture, soils, astrophysics/particle physics (for the math-impaired), cognitive sciences/meditation.I Love Books. Politics, politics and more politics...where history meets the train wreck of today.
Love to travel, hike/hang out in woods, prairies. I don't know why, but I can't catch fish...maybe because if you set me down under a tree with a pole or rifle I go straight to sleep. I enjoy it all the same, and like to ride, paint/draw, grow stuff, walk around in the yard in my pajamas talking to the cats. I don't like dogs, not one bit at all. I have known about 2 dogs I liked, chows. Yardfowl are okey. I'm a good cook: you catch/shoot/grow it, I can clean and cook it.
Music
The best songs are hangings, shootings, stabbings, say "Midnight Special" or "The Long Black Veil" I can be about to die, sit down and pick and sing one like that and feel great...something about traicion y "murio con pistola en la mano" makes me feel better. Be it blues, country, rock, punk, funk, bluegrass, soul, norteno, beach/r&b: anything good or home-made. Recent listening: Neil Young, the Flatlanders/Joe Ely, T-Modle Ford, Merle Haggard, Los Lonely Boys, "Corridas de la Decada de las Trientas," Fishbone, Pouges, Clash, Sid Selvidge, Mississippi Shieks, North Mississippi Allstars, Othar Turner & Rising Star Fife/Drum Band, Jimmie Rodgers...hum, my taste has not progressed much since the 80s and in fact appears to be regressing....Last time I went out was to hear Neighboorhood Texture Jam (Memphis punk).
Since Memphis public radio did away with BBC news, I have returned to Mississippi public radio and listen to "Highway 61" blues show and "Thistle and Shamrock", sometimes even the highly pompous "Thacker Mountain Radio Show." Also, Radio Havana on shortwave, with Cuban music interspersed with the propaganda.
Movies
Last time I went to the show was ca. 1996 in Kentucky, because my crew wanted to go. Jefferson in Paris. What hogwash. Rich France probably was like that at that time. Why didn't they wake up before it was too late? If it's got cows and cactus, I'll probably look at it. But generally, I found that if I sat down in the dark and cool in a comfy seat I fell asleep...sorta a waste of money if I could do the same at the hotel.
Television
couldn't pay me to have one. well, maybe, but it would have to be a considerable sum. it's like a watch, why should I have my own when everybody else has several anytime I should want to look?
Books
in danger of dying under an avalance, whole house over full of books and still dragging more home. The biggest section is the CRM grey literature library, followed by: Americas, Asia, Science, Europe, then a stack of comicbooks. Lone Wolf and Cub (Baby-cart Assassin)was my favorite comic, set in Tokugawa era, also Daredevil, X-Men, Thor, Ironman, Ghost Tank, Dr. Strange...what's the deal when all the comic books have been made into movies?
Heroes
Ay! Folks I respect, my teachers and mentors: JMC,SMcG,SOB,JER,JWO'H,RCMJr.,JHH,HAD,LS-A, RHLIII, CHMcNSr.
George Washington Carver and James Earl Carter, who tried to save us from ourselves.

About me: Born and raised on a Mississippi Delta farm--cotton, rice, beans, cows. Anthropology degrees from Mississippi State (BA)and Memphis State (MA). Since the 80s, I've lived all over The US, Wyoming to Virginia, doing archaeology. I have saddly never been Anywhere Else, not even Canada or Mexico, tho I have looked at them across the rivers. See my webpage www.deltaarchaeology.us and science and history blog at 360.yahoo.com/mestarr. Upcoming events at http://maryestarr.multiply.com.

We planted 105 trees in the last week of the project of this year. It was an easy work compare with the first 25 trees. The land was soft so it was really easy digging. In 3 hours I by myself could dig 25 tree holes. When I arrived to the project site first 25 trees that I planted earlier looked like dead. I don't like giving up, I'm not that type of person. So when everybody said there is no chance they all are dead I continued watering them and a lot. Then finally most of them had a sign of recovery. They started to have new green leaves and some of them started to have a new growth. I was pretty happy to see that :) Also a cow ate one of the trees. But we brought materials for making fences and we did. It looks really beautiful now. In that project site there wasn't raining that much since June 1st. It was raining but not enough for the water to get to the roots of the plants. But the day we left it rained for whole 8 hours at least then we left when it was still raining. So I hope that rain helped our trees to grow. Of course our project nomads are watering it everyday but rainy days. Only the problem for them is to carry 80 liters of water for 1 km 3 times a day. So they use motorcycles to bring the water. In our last week we had 2 volunteers. Vern is from Singapore and Ann is from the USA. I'm really glad that I had them as our volunteers. They are an amazing people. I really liked them. So we became good friends. When they were in Ulaanbaatar I showed them around and I invited them to come and watch documentaries in my place.
