“..One delectable song after another.”
– David McClellan, The Fulcrum -University of Ottawa, ON
Since graduating from Vancouver’s Capilano College with her Bachelors of Jazz Studies, pianist/vocalist Mary Kastle has found herself most at home bridging the divide between jazz and contemporary pop songwriting. She has released two EPs, the latest thanks to a FACTOR demo grant, and criss-crossed Canada several times in support of them. In 2008 she also received a Canada Council study grant to work with esteemed jazz pianist Tim Ray (Jane Siberry, Lyle Lovett, Berklee & NEC Faculty) in Boston. Mary has embraced all aspects of the music business and enjoys working as Label Manager for indie roots label Black Hen Music. Her forthcoming debut full-length recording will be produced by Juno-Award winning avant-folk producer/guitarist Steve Dawson and distributed in Canada through Outside Music. Mary plans to tour extensively throughout North America and Europe upon the album’s release.
Things are just too damned SLOW here in Motown. I lost my day gig in February and have been doing nothing but playing music since then. I'm getting unemployment and have a decent amount of money in the bank. So far a lot of playing and not much money. I've met a whole lot of people, and have been sitting in and doing some sporadic playing for money....but would be starving and living in a fucking box if I had to live off my music....
Want to go on a world tour? We could get into alot of trouble....
Check it out! I wrote a free book on music production! It's for total beginners, but if you aren't new to music production, maybe you'll still learn something... at least you can send it to your friends who always want to ask you a billion questions about music production! It's totally free too; my goal with this is to accumulate as many BFF's as possible.
Hi, so great to see (and hear) you perform last night at the Downtown Coffee Ground! I truly enjoyed the evening and hope you and Christa didn't mind being assigned a local navigator who really didn't know his way around, haha! It was nice seeing you again Mary and I enjoyed our chats. Have a safe trip my friend - Ian.
