People tend to focus on the here and now. The problem is that, once global warming is something that most people can feel in the course of their daily lives, it will be too late to prevent much larger, potentially catastrophic changes. ~ELIZABETH KOLBERT, The New Yorker, Apr. 25, 2005
A Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases we produce. It is measured in units of carbon dioxide.

Going vegetarian/vegan is perhaps the most effective
way to reduce your carbon footprint!
The burning of fossil fuels (such as oil and gasoline) releases carbon dioxide, the primary gas responsible for global warming. Producing one calorie of animal protein requires more than 10 times as much fossil fuel input—releasing more than 10 times as much carbon dioxide—than does a calorie of plant protein.3 Feeding massive amounts of grain and water to farmed animals and then killing them and processing, transporting, and storing their flesh is extremely energy-intensive. In addition, enormous amounts of carbon dioxide stored in trees are released during the destruction of vast acres of forest to provide pasture land and to grow crops for farmed animals. On top of this, animal manure also releases large quantities of carbon dioxide.

"True benevolence or compassion, extends itself through the whole of existence and sympathizes with the distress of every creature capable of sensation."
~ Joseph Addison
First it was necessary to civilize man in relation to man. Now it is necessary to civilize man in relation to nature and the animals.
Victor Hugo (poet, novelist, and playwright)
Sharks rarely pose a danger to humans. But humans do pose a danger to sharks! Fishermen kill an estimated 30 million to 100 million sharks every year. About 75 shark species are in danger of becoming extinct.
What kind of shark are you?

"Results from animal tests are not transferable between species, and therefore cannot guarantee product safety for humans...In reality these tests do not provide protection for consumers from unsafe products, but rather they are used to protect corporations from legal liability." ~ Herbert Gundersheimer, M.D.
Aquaman ~ Ocean Defender Working on a new blog that will explain where I have been for those that have asked. I hope all of my friends enjoy the day! view more
I must live a little each day, greet the sun as it rises and revel in its setting, swim naked, sip coffee and wine by the shore, generate new ideas, admire myself, talk to animals, meditate, laugh, risk adventures. I must try to be soft, not hard; fluid not rigid; tender, not cold; find rather than seek. I have been embraced by the sea, tested by the elements, emptied of anxiety, cleansed with fresh thought. In the process, I have recovered myself.

I am just a big kid at heart, I am growing older but not up! I love my daughters most of all being a single father I am Dad and Mom all wrapped in one! My daughters are the main focus of my life for the past 18 years and they never fail to bring love and joy into my life each and every day! My Dad is not just not my father but my best friend. He has been there for me through good times and bad times. My Mother, there is not a more caring and loving person in the whole world. I am concerned about issues such as Animal Rights, Global Warming, Shark Finning, and many more important issues that are having a negative effect on our precious ecosystem, I am no expert in any of these areas but I am learning more every day. I want my children and generations to come to enjoy many of the things that are now taken for granted by many. I will be honest, I was not aware of the negative impact that many of the things I have done in the past just because that's how I was taught and it was the "Norm". I now am trying to make a difference in the way I live and approach my daily life so I can help any way I can no matter how small the task. There are many wonderful organizations and individuals that have incredible Myspace pages covering many of the important issues our planet faces today, take a minute and check out just some of the organizations on my friends list and if you find one you are interested in, visit that page and show your support! The more educated we all become on the issues our planet faces today, the better off we will be to handle them and make a difference. Thank you for visiting my page and I wish you all Fair Winds And Following Seas!

In the end, we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught. ~Baba Dioum, Senegalese Conservationist.
All across the world, in every kind of environment and region known to man, increasingly dangerous weather patterns and devastating storms are abruptly putting an end to the long-running debate over whether or not climate change is real. Not only is it real, it's here, and its effects are giving rise to a frighteningly new global phenomenon: the man-made natural disaster. ~BARACK OBAMA, speech, Apr. 3, 2006

The Persian Gulf region has been a part of my life for 20 years the operations (named below) are two of the ones that are near to my heart. I had to leave the Navy to raise may daughters and that has been more rewarding then I can put in words. I will say there is a part in my heart that wishes I could be there beside my fellow sailors today serving proudly. I have had friends killed in action and I have seen happy family reunions, let me say this;
I do not agree with some of the actions committed by some of the military personnel in regards to animal cruelty and crimes against humanity, I served with honor and duty but most of all respect for all living creatures. I still support our troops but now know they need to come home for this is an unjust war. To those that are serving, have served and for those that gave the ultimate sacrifice, I salute you and respect you.

Something had gnawed it's way into my home the other day and left a huge mess ~ dried cranberries, raw organic almonds, and microwave popcorn were strewn everywhere and, on TOP of that, my entire collection of Star Wars memorabilia was GONE! I discovered and followed a trail of crumbs which led to the park next door...needless to say, I think I may have found the culprits.
