The Sha Bebe are cloth dolls who live in an enchanted land that is surrounded by trees in the sugarcane fields of Louisiana. They have lived in the sugarcane fields since the beginning of time. The story is considered adult folklore, but can be read by humans of all ages. The legend began with my grandpa telling me that all of the good dolls come from the sugarcane fields. Keep checking my blog for photos and stories about the characters who live in the enchanted land.

In the Land of Sha Bebe is the story of how rag dolls, living in an enchanted land in the sugarcane fields, are sent to a woman, Emily, who is struggling to cope with the death of her dad.
In the first few pages we are introduced to two rag dolls, Jolie and Beau, who come to life from their doll existence to help Emily understand that death is part of life. The book deals with Emily's grief and shows how the rag dolls helped her come to terms with her loss.
Through the sugarcane fields of Louisiana we are taken on an enchanting journey into a world of dolls living in a world not unlike our own. Jolie and Beau show Emily that our lives are constantly changing and that death is a natural process of life. Most importantly of all, they teach her that there is beauty and magic in life
if only we believe.

Mary Lynn Plaisance is affectionately called BeB by her husband Teddy. They have been married for 40 years. Both were born and raised on the banks of Bayou Lafourche. They met in high school and started calling each other BeB before they were married. The name BeB is a term of endearment that is used by many in Cajun country. After high school, they were married and raised a family of four boys. They now have nine grandchildren.
When the boys left home, BeB wanted to do something different. This is when Sha Bebe was born. *Sha Bebe means dear baby in Cajun French*. She made her first doll in 1991, and had the doll copyrighted in 1993. The face of Sha Bebe is what identifies the doll. When something is made by hand no two pieces are exactly alike, but the dolls have a look that you know.
BeB always wanted a story to go with the dolls, and when she acquired BeBs Place in Mathews in 1999, she knew in her heart that this was the place to display her dolls and her Cajun family heritage.
The old house was for her great grandma. Teddy restored the old house for BeB. During this time of restoration is when a story began to unfold in her mind. With so much sugarcane around the place, this magical story of an enchanted land started to evolve.
The cover photo is of the sugarcane that was growing when they first moved the dolls into BeB's Place. The sugarcane field is truly The Land of Sha Bebe. The fields are enchanted in parts of Louisiana, and the dolls do bring happiness to everyone. Many people have said so. Do you believe?

The dolls are "dear babies" to me. The fairy tale stories are considered adult folklore, but the stories can be enjoyed by humans of all ages. Order the boy and girl doll, the books and the Cajun fairy ... Because of supply and demand, the character dolls aren't for sale now.
Jolie and Beau were running on the braided rug road in The Land of Sha Bebe. They kept running out of the doll land and into the sugarcane field on foot, until they arrived at Emilys home in human land. Madame Poulette told them to go quickly after having approval, instead of letting them out of the fields on the magic flying quilt as usual. Why? They didnt know. So they ran as fast as they could.
Later, Emily wants to go into the Land of Sha Bebe
where NO human has ever entered.

DANCE TEAM AUDITIONS Auditions will be held April 22nd and 24th from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Southside Elementary School Gym!
Auditions will consist of a combination. Come in dance clothes and dance shoes and hair pulled out of your face. We need boys and girls. The team will be a competitive & performance jazz / lyrical / hip hop / tap dance team with the possibility of clogging. You do not have to do all that for the try outs. After the auditions, if we need to see more, you may prepare a 1 minute routine in either jazz, lyrical or tap
