Mary is a seasoned Maine musician, composer, indie recording artist and
performer. She performs many solo gigs and sometimes performs with
others. Often the genre is blues and jazz. In addition to her solo work, Mary performs bluegrass (vocals and guitar) as one of the "Murmaids" along with Kimber Beth Murphy and Cathy Eastman. The three are also in a four piece gospel vocal group called Pearl's Kin, with Mary's brother Richard Eastman as the fourth member.
Although an Irish-Scot-American, the french language is a hobby. She writes some songs in french and has performed concerts in French.
Mary has won awards for performance and songwriting statewide (DECMA: Down East Country Music Association) and internationally (North America Country Music Associations International in Pigeon Forge, Tennesee)
Mary's style has been compared to the likes of Janis Joplin, Minnie Ripperton, Barbara Streisand, Billie Holiday and Etta James. When
doing solo gigs, she plays piano with a unique left hand walking bass style
for blues and jazz tunes and often does solos with blues harp while keeping
the bassline going. Occasionally she will whistle a solo. She also plays guitar and sometimes does a few songs with guitar for a change of pace. Mary is a
multi-instrumentalist and you never know what she might play next.
Mary relates well to her audience and loves the intimate atmosphere of a
restaurant or pub where the audience members are friendly and get to know each other while enjoying her performance. Requests come from all over the map and she will gladly play them if she knows them.
