Mary was born and raised in Calgary Alberta, the youngest of six. Her musical influences and country roots began at the tender age of four, when her family would gather around the Resek house for their Saturday night jams. Mary’s dad, Tony Resek, would play guitar, yodel and sing the old traditional country tunes, while Mary and her siblings would harmonize and play guitar, accordion or violin. Tony, who had played and sung in a band, always said to his kids, “You gotta learn those harmonies. A good country song isn’t complete unless you have those harmonies.”
Mary’s brother Ronnie was lead guitarist and singer in a Portland rock’n’roll band and her Aunt Mary sang with the Metropolitan Opera. With such a strong family heritage in music, it’s no wonder Mary was bitten by the entertainment bug.
While in high school, Mary played saxophone and sang in the choir. Later, she sang in her church choir and in musical theatre. She then went on to place as a finalist in several vocal competitions. After showcasing at various events, Mary realized how deeply country music was embedded within her. She has pursued this passion ever since.
Mary's upcoming debut Album "Two In The Saddle", planned for release this spring, embraces that passion. It reveals just a little bit of Mary’s “spirit” and offers a true traditional country sound.
Mary currently performs as a single act at various venues ranging from Stampede breakfasts, BBQS, seniors clubs, lodges, private /corporate functions to soloist at her community church.
