About me:

http://votemary2008.com

GOOD FRIDAY, Burnet, TX -- Two months ahead of its national convention in Denver, the Libertarian Party's already crowded field of candidates grew by one on Friday as Dr. Mary J. Ruwart announced her candidacy for the LP's 2008 presidential nomination.

Responding to an informal draft effort conducted by party activists, the author of Amazon.Com #1 bestseller Healing Our World in an Age of Aggression launched her campaign web site and announced plans to begin addressing state party conventions and other political events with the intent of challenging Republican candidate John McCain and the Democratic Party's as yet unnamed nominee for the support of America's voters.

"Libertarians have been waiting for a candidate who can change the tone of American politics," says campaign manager R. Lee Wrights. "Dr. Ruwart is that kind of candidate. She's a unifier and a motivator who can communicate our message of freedom and be heard."

Running on a theme of "Healing America," Ruwart -- a Ph.D and former Assistant Professor of Surgery with a background in pharmaceutical research -- proposes to withdraw US forces from Iraq, drastically reduce federal taxes and spending, and deregulate health care to increase access and quality.

"Only liberty can heal the rifts that divide and impoverish America," says Ruwart, 57. "Freedom breeds compassion, tolerance and prosperity. Coercion breeds conflict, fear and poverty." In Healing Our World, and Short Answers to the Tough Questions, she propounds a caring, rather than combative, approach to promoting the Libertarian Party's political agenda.

Ruwart earned a BS in biochemistry and a Ph.D in biophysics from Michigan State University. She has served on the Libertarian National Committee, as well as the boards of the International Society for Individual Liberty, the Fully Informed Jury Association and the Michigan chapter of the Heartland Institute. She lives with her husband, Ray, in Burnet, Texas.

Thanks for the add, Mary! You're awesome and I loved your book!

I've became a libertarian this year and joined the LP this year as well. After reading and studying up on libertarianism. I've talked with many of my friends about libertarianism and have converted many of them into libertarians! I'm trying to continue the Ron Paul Revolution for the younger generation! It's been a very successful year.

Some of my friends have asked me to make a bid for mayor of our home town in 2010. So, I've decided to run. Any pointers (if you have time to give any) for running a campaign?

Thanks,

Joel Shelton

MARY~

Last night I participated in what was supposed to be an On-Line debate of IL US Senate candidates... It turned into an hour long interview with me after the other candidates failed to call in... I think it went well.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. You can listen any time at this link:

Mary, I'm not sure that I can support Bob Barr. Time will tell. I almost rejoined the LP, with you and other "real" libertarians in the house. Still thinking about it.
Very best wishes.

I've been reading "Healing Our World", and it makes me realize even more that the wrong person was chosen to best represent the LP.
What a fantastic book!

Definitely prettier than Hillary, but clearly that's not the point. LOL You certainly know your stuff, and don't need to back it up with any deception.

So sorry you didn't get the nom - I was kinda hoping you'd at least get the VP spot with Gravel. :o)

Well, we didn't get you the nomination, but I was incredibly happy when your name came up for one of the positions of Representative at Large. The people that were still around and voting for officers, those were the true and the dedicated Libertarians.

I'm glad to have been apart of it and especially happy that you took a small bit of time to speak with me and take a picture with me :)

Best wishes to Dr.
Ruwart!

I would have changed my party to Lib (after our primary) if you had won. I can't BELIEVE they picked Barr. No way am I voting for him.

Sorry to see the further sell-out of the Libertarian Party. It is just a mini-GOP now!

We need a return to true libertarianism from the GOP lite that has watered down our libertarian gospel and mixed it with the aggression of statism!
