"I write about things that matter to me. Things that are close to my heart. And it's my hope that through music we can connect with one another, to better understand that we are all alike, and that no one is alone." - Mary Scholz
Mary has been compared to a mix of Joni Mitchell, Joan Biaz and the Indigo Girls. Recent comparisons have also included Regina Spektor, Alison Krauss and Dar Williams. Thanks to all those who have said these things. :) They are the greatest of compliments.

Hi there - Mary here - thanks for checking out my page. As you can see, I am a singer/songwriter based in Philadelphia, but I travel all over, playing shows and meeting people of all kinds of backgrounds. I love my job.
I grew up in Havertown, PA, am one of three children to my two musically inclined parents, and have been singing since I can remember. Even as a kid I remember being fascinated by all things music - my parents both played instruments (piano and guitar...so that's where I get that from...) and provided the music at our church - so that's where I got my start as well!
Like any fine-arts loving teenager I was a proud member of the marching band (on flute and eventually as drum major - love for band dorks everywhere!), sang in the choir, participated in the school shows and occasionally wrote for the school newspaper.
After high school I attended The University of the Arts in Philadelphia, majoring in Musical Theatre and loving every second of the intense music/acting/dancing training.
Since graduation in 2006 I have been traveling from city to city, spreading my love for music wherever I can. I've also appeared in a few plays and films along the way, including Iano Film's production of "The Matter With Clark" which was recently a part of the New York Independent Film Festival, as well as the Fallbrook Film Festival. In 2007 I released my first EP, "Philadelphia Nights," which is available online at CB Baby, iTunes, Napster...you name it!
I've just finished production of my second EP, "The Beauty of It All," which will be released on Sunday October 5th, 2008, as the first release on my self-started record label, Ringlet Records.
Please give my music a listen and pass it on to anyone who you think would enjoy this folk/rock vibe. Every listener counts!
Thanks so much for your support!

Having recently completed her training with a BFA from the University of the Arts, Mary is spending her time playing gigs up and down the east coast. Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
