The Masanga Marimba Ensemble was founded in 2000 at California State University, Northridge. Since then, they have become an institution in Los Angeles, playing venues from Bars to the Zoo, weddings to private parties, even the inauguration of L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
Masanga plays traditional and popular music from Zimbabwe, South Africa, and Latin America. Based in Los Angeles, CA, they are the only Zimbabwean-style Marimba group in Southern California. Led by Dr. of ethnomusicology Ric Alviso, the band conisists of an eclectic mix of musicians (music teachers, music administrators, composers, and performers).
Available for all types of public and private performances, this high energy dance band puts on a great show that people of all ages enjoy.
