Mason Bellamy, age 15, started writing music on the piano while in 6th grade. Soon he discovered guitar and started putting his feelings in his music. Writing about things both he and his friends struggled with on a daily basis, he quickly got a following. Now with band-mates Jeff Rettig (drums) and Ashley Ritchey (bass), they reach out through music to those who are hurting to show the love of Jesus Christ.
With music they call "positive" and "relevant", MASON strives to speak in terms relevant to today's youth. In 2008 MASON released thier first CD "Bruised", a true garage album, as it was recorded and produced in the basement next to the garage at Bellamy's home. They also started to receive some radio airplay in 2008 as well as being voted for online by thousands of fans to play at the Ichthus music festival in Wilmore, Kentucky.
Following the Ichthus performance, the Harold-Leader, in Lexington Kentucky, quoted Josh Brown lead singer for "Day of Fire". backstage, many artists mingled and complimented one another on their respective sets. Brown told the crowd he was particularly impressed with Mason Bellamy, the lead vocalist and guitar player for Mason, Bellamy's band, which is based in Apple Creek, Ohio. Bellamy is only 14 years old and will enter ninth grade in the fall. "I wish I could have played like him when I was his age, or now," Brown said.
Look for MASON to make some noise in 2009 and make sure you get out to a show and hear the "live" show from a band on the rise. Also make sure you say hi at the shows as the band always loves to hang out with and talk with any and all fans!
