.. .. .. .. .. .. ......Massawippi Skank.. from ..BLICFILM.. on ..Vimeo..... .. .. .. .. .. .. .. Massawippi Skank is an independent five-piece group in Montreal, dedicated to heating up dancefloors with an enticing blend of traditional ska with bop-inspired horn improvisation and roots-rock bass lines. Starting out loosely as a Sunday afternoon weekly jam session, Massawippi Skank began to play shows in the small college town of Lennoxville, Quebec. They rounded out their set of traditional Jamaican ska and reggae with catchy original tunes inspired by the captivating scenery that is unique to the Eastern Townships. Massawippi Skank has shared the stage with great ska/reggae groups such as Take the Boys, Caillasse, Thousands of Bicycles, The Reggae Dubline Corp., Mellow-G, Blame the Name, The Bay-Town Connection, The Hangers, Stepper, Blood and Fire, K-Man and the 45's, The Wax Buckets, just to name a few. The Skanks have played a variety of venues such as Petit Campus, Bar St. Laurent II, Les Bobards, the House of Reggae, Cabaret Playhouse, Bar L’Absynthe, Café Chaos, Les 3 Minots, the UAB BMX bike park, Way’s Mills' Shazam Fest ('08), and the Barfly. In spring 2009 the Skanks also recorded a live demo of tunes that got crowds a skankin in their very own Studio 45 (which, has burned and is no more). The three tunes, "Roach Stomp," "Scorcher," and "Strange Wilds" were recorded and mixed by the Skank's own Neil Gillis, and are available for download here on the myspace. In the autumn of 2009, the Skanks were the very first band to play at the very first ever Montreal Ska Festival and shared the bill with some of North America's very best ska acts. Petit Campus skanked hard at the festival's kickoff party, a "Soiree Stomp," organized by Canada's own Stomp Records. With airtime on Montreal's "Root Rock Rebel" CKUT Radio show, and CBC Radio 2, you can hear the Skanks throughout the city and country. Also, "The Green House E.P," the 6-song recording debut of 2008 is available at Station Knowlton' Cafe (5671 rue Sherbrooke Ouest, NDG, Montréal), and other local vendors throughout Montreal, but most importantly at live performances. With a proper website on the way, and with plans to record a 2'd studio album in winter/spring of 2010, Massawippi Skank will be skankin' the airwaves and iPod's with some fresh new tunes. Stay posted as to this new record!......As per usual, the Skanks are always available for your bar, stage, or party.
