What is MASS SUGAR ?? Mass Sugar is the brainchild of Ty Willman and friends.
Original Tacoma, Washington neo-punk band Inspector Luv & the Ride Me Babies was founded by Ty Willman. Green Apple Quick Step was also fronted by Ty - the band's 1993 debut album Wonderful Virus was released on Reprise Records. In 1995 Green Apple Quick Step released Reloaded, with production help from Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam.
In exchange, Ty provided lead vocals on three tracks from Gossard's first solo album, Bayleaf, released on Epic Records. Green Apple Quick Step released one final album with Columbia Records, & appeared on the soundtracks of Basketball Diaries (with "Dizzy"), and I Know What You Did Last Summer ("Kid"). Willman later worked with Mike McCready in $10,000 Gold Chain, then went on to Devilhead and another project, Calm Down Juanita in 1998. Calm Down Juanita was a solo compilation featuring members of Pearl Jam, Green Apple Quick Step and Critters Buggin'.
In 2005, along with four other musicians who helped originate the Seattle sound, Ty became the frontman for rock outfit Novatone. They released a debut CD, Time Can’t Wait on the Seattle-based independent label Wax Orchard. The five-piece ensemble included drummer Dave Krusen & vocalist Ty Willman, former members of Pearl Jam and Green Apple Quick Step. As Novatone, with the added talents of guitarist Rob Lyons, keyboardist Rob Knop and bassist Cody Davis, the band delivered a strong musical collective.
Since then, Ty's voice has remained a signature of the Northwest music scene and he has new songs licensed for TV & Film. A recent composition "California" penned with friend & well-known Seattle artist Shawn Smith, was featured on HBO's "Sopranos". Willman's contributions to the music community are endless.

Led through the eyes of this soulful singer, Mass Sugar is a raw expression of lessons learned about life, love and the ability to forgive ourselves and each other through music. "Inspector Luv and the Ride Me Babies, Green Apple Quick Step, and Novatone are all bands I've started...But MASS SUGAR is the beginning of all the things I've learned." -- ---- ----- Ty Willman . 2006 .

Ty is excited to share this new solo material from the Mass Sugar project with you. Joined by three other outstanding musicians, Jeremy Lightfoot (Trombone Cake, The Droneys, TRWST & the Puget Sound Machine), Keith Jaeger (Screamer), Cameron Brownfield (The Droneys, TRWST & the Puget Sound Machine) and Ty have come together, each from their respective projects to share something new.
Mass Sugar's instrumentation is unique, done with beautiful precision... the lyrics are refined, rhythmical... poetic. Ty and company have culminated all of their superb skills and vast experience learned over the years - and it tastes sweet.
Mass Sugar is booking Northwest venues & the guys are gearing up to play more shows this summer. They are currently working in the studio and have played venues around town including the Showbox, Sunset Tavern and High Dive to name a few. There will be show dates listed on the page here and a new record is also soon to be released. Mass Sugar has received air-play on local Seattle radio station, the END as well as local internet radio KDMRadio.net. The guys have been playing to enthusiastic crowds and each new show gives the promise of something great!

Here's a review of the band from the infamous Dennis Cook of Jambase.com: A touch too punchy to make the morning offerings, I stumbled in and got WOKE THE FUCK UP by Big High, a local hard rock ensemble and friends to Flowmotion that struck a first impression akin to my first mind-blowing Drunk Horse gig. Like Oakland's steel-plated punk-boogie juggernaut, Big High aren't screwing around and it wasn't a whole tune before I was shaking like a madman close to the stage. Killer tunes, a crazy tight band and a lead singer (Mesa on "vocal flyfishing") possessed of a fathomless bottom and high reachin' top end plus a leaping, fiercely engaging stage presence, and well Big High sorta rocked my widdle world. It's serious heavy muscle that puts a lil' anger and sex in your bloodstream, culminating in a frighteningly good cover of The Who's "Baba O'Riley" delivered in Dr. John style feather masks for no good reason except to be delightfully weird. If you're feeling Clutch, Parlor Mob or just dig quality hard rock you're missing out if you don't get to know Big High. At the end of their set I bellowed, quite uncontrollably, "We're awake now, motherfuckers!" Meant it, too. -- Dennis Cook--www.jambase.com www.myspace.com/bighighmusic BIG HIGH is also on facebook here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BIG-HIGH/134022157365?ref=nf High Dive www.highdiveseattle.com 513 N 36th St # G Seattle, WA 98103-8693 (206) 632-0212 &
