2008 releases for Masterworks Broadway include the cast album for the Tony Award-winning and critically acclaimed Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific. The cast album debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 pop chart and continues to impress in the market place. On September 30th, we will release Stephen Sondheim – The Story So Far, a lavish 4-CD retrospective box set that features 33 unreleased tracks from the legendary composer’s distinguished career. 2007 releases include reissues of Stephen Sondheim’s masterpieces Sweeney Todd, Into The Woods, Merrily We Roll and Sunday in the Park with George and a new Broadway cast recording of Grease starring Laura Osnes and Max Crumm, the winners of the NBC reality series YOU’RE THE ONE THAT I WANT.
For over a decade, Sony Classical has been a boldly creative force in the film soundtrack world, the label that released the best-selling soundtrack of all time – Titanic. Sony Classical has had the most successful score soundtracks in recent years including all three recent Star Wars films, Memoirs of A Geisha, and the platinum movie musical The Phantom of the Opera. In fact, Sony BMG has had three of the most successful movie musical soundtracks of the last decade, Phantom, Chicago and Dreamgirls. Between 1997 and 2000, Sony Classical recorded all four successive Oscar winners for Best Original Score and turned them into top-selling soundtrack recordings – Titanic (1997), Shakespeare in Love (1998), The Red Violin (1999) and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).
