INNER SCIENCE also started in the end of 90s. It is a solo project by Tokyo-based Masumi Nishimura. In the early careers,he make his mark in the so-called Japanese Hiphop scene but since 2000s, he departed from narrowly-defined Hip Hop for the improvement in instrumental electronic music. Presenting perfect merge with beautiful melodies and colorful rhythms,INNER SCIENCE draw unprecedented attention in Japan and overseas.released a new solo work "Elegant confections e.p." from own label PLAIN MUSIC in 2007/november.subsequently,Split 12inch"Attributions e.p." with AZZURRO was released in 2008/march.The activity as DJ is activated in parallel with many production and live performance recently, too. A variegated sound sourcethat does derivation/expansion interpretation there centering on own music character is being played. Music was offered for the planetarium of "Nihon-KagakuMiraikan" in 2009. It keeps widening one's field of branch out as an artist.A new album is being produced now.
Stretching, refining and rearranging the sonic material extracted from records,
and leaving the warmth, rhythms, and grooves from sampled sounds, PORTRAL transforms
them into beautiful ambient music. Coming from a new generation of beatmakers,
Inner Science releases his first non-beat project under the name PORTRAL! Starting
his career in the hiphop scene, Inner Science has released 3 albums so far, and
in particular his album "MATERIAL" released in 2004 from soup-disk gained
the acclaim of beat freaks and electronic music fans. He ran the independent label
ONEOWNER RECORDS but closed it down in 2005 to the dismay of many fans. released
countless mix, and works with a wide range of artists outside of the hiphop circuit.
Applying his knowledge of sampling that he gained through beat production, he
utilized the warmth of vinyl samples without using discernable rhythms, and started
the ambient project PORTRAL in 2004. He has two vinyl releases as PORTRAL under
his belt, and also released a DVD-R of an improvised live show with visual artist
10k.
