Matchbook Romance began as a local band based out of upstate New York in the summer of 2001. Consisting of Andrew Jordan on guitar and lead vocals, Ryan Depaolo on lead guitar and backing vocals, Aaron Stern on drums, and Ryan Kienle on bass, the band quickly developed a loyal fan base and caught the attention of punk rock mogul Brett Gurewitz, owner of Epitaph Records. Although he had never seen the band live, and the band had never toured or released an album, Gurewitz believed in Matchbook Romance and offered the band their first record deal. In the summer of 2002, just days after Stern graduated high school, the deal was signed and the bands' dreams realized.
Over the next few years, the band released 2 full length albums, 2 EPs, and toured around the world gaining critical acclaim and building its base of loyal fans both in the US and abroad. It was after their sophomore release, Voices, however, that the band decided to take an indefinite hiatus in the spring of 2007.
Now, after a 2 year hiatus, Matchbook Romance is ready to take the stage again. They will be performing a handful of shows in May 2009 and perhaps follow that with a record and/or tour. The future remains to be seen...
Welcome to Theory of Tides crosscurrents of altrock/hiphop/trance.Feedback, tell us your faves. Happy to have you in our Tidal Pool.THE TIDE IS IN…AND SO ARE THE REVIEWS “Mirana’s vocals further establish Theory of Tides as a truly special act, one that can use the widest possible swath of approaches to create the music heard here.” NEUFUTUR “Cool, hip and modern beats are fully loaded on this new album and I simply can’t get enough!” SKOPE “…it’s like alternative trance music, with brief smatterings of hip hop/latin beats. Arty, yes - but does it work? Actually, yes.” EMUSIC “Theory of Tides, and this album specifically, should be seen as a blueprint for how to properly incorporate disparate genres of music into one cogent sound.” NEUFUTUR “…Mirana simply sang her heart out while she meshed in perfectly with Rick’s production.” SKOPE “Karaoke is Theory of Tide’s first bona fide hit that rides a groove while Mirana’s vocals clue listeners into a wonderfully detailed narrative.” NEUFUTUR “Track’s like ‘Elated’ have an Ibiza-in-summer feel and a deep house beat underneath Mirana’s distinctive vocals. ‘Hour of Pain’ vocal fades and quiet bass additions are spot on.” EMUSIC “One aspect that I truly loved about his album was the use of sounds and beats.Production is spot on with Rick bringing his A-game. I heard everything form hip hop, pop/dance, technoish, trance like and tribal beats…” INTERVIEW:skopemag.com/ 2009/11/13/jimmy-rae-flows-along-with-mirana-comstock-of-theory-of-tides
