During the writing process, we feed off each other to get the best out of a song & ourselves…
so in that respect...we... as one... inspire “Matchstickmen”.
"It’s really difficult to try & pigeonhole our music due to the wide variation in musical tastes and influences within the band. I think that people should appreciate our songs for what they are not what category they may fall under".
In August 2005 through mutual acquaintances, singer/songwriter Lewis Wright met Paul "Probes" Robins; a passionate melodic guitarist. The pair began by playing cover versions acoustically at open-mic nights and then started to write their own material.
Shortly after, Ryan Johnson joined the band. Initially a guitarist, Ryan took on the role as a bassist for the first time and proved a worthy choice.
Now they needed a drummer... with his intricate stick-work & concise beats, Barrie May impressed the band and instantly filled the vacancy.
They decided to look for a second guitarist and Peter Donnelly (A fan of the band) offered his services. They jammed together and realised they had a great chemistry and Pete's thundering guitars would be a great asset.
The band was now complete.
The success story of Liverpool-based five-piece Matchstickmen looks set to scale new highs as the band prepare themselves for an industrious 2009.
Matchstickmen have achieved a strong presence in the Liverpool music scene.
The first thing you notice at a Matchstickmen gig is the band’s immense presence on stage. The second is how much they stand out from the crowd.
Matchstickmen reveal the reaction from their new fans: “Its just incredible to have such a positive response for our audience. We didn’t expect it at all. Watching them singing along to our songs… it’s just amazing really.”
Each member of the band has found influences from different artists and genres of music, including Pearl Jam, Oasis, Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Cure.
The end result of combining such varied influences is a unique and original sound.
The band’s passion for music is clearly evident to all who hear their music or see them perform. The band energises their audience in a way that has so far greatly surpassed any of their rivals.
The band have played an array of prominent gigs including Carling supports and have supported signed acts such as Baddies and are supporting Electric Six in December.
Matchstickmen released their new EP "Sleepwalking" on 30th October 08 and is available to purchase on iTunes, a release that was so clearly anticipated by the loyal fan-base who support the band every step on their road to success.

Sorrow passed, and plucked the golden blossom; Guilt stripped off the foliage in its pride; But, within its parent's kindly bosom, Flowed for ever Life's restoring-tide.
Little mourned I for the parted gladness, For the vacant nest and silent song - Hope was there, and laughed me out of sadness; Whispering, " Winter will not linger long!"
And, behold! with tenfold increase blessing, Spring adorned the beauty-burdened spray; Wind and rain and fervent heat, caressing, Lavished glory on that second May! from, "Death" by Emily Bronte
