Mathieu Gramoli was born in 1978 in Paris. He started playing drums at age 15 with rock and funk bands during college.
In 2002, he attended the Centre des Musiques Didier Lockwood where he studied for two years with Franck Aghulon, André Charlier, Stephane Huchard, Karim Ziad, and graduated. In 2004, he won the « tremplin Esprit Jazz à St Germain des Prés » with the Nagual Orchestra. He then entered the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, in 2005. During the same year, he flew to Brasil to record two albums : one with Orquestra do Fubà , and the other with the instrumental band Tekere. This two-months travel has been a major influence to him.
Now evolving in Paris, he has performed in many festivals and clubs in France and Europe with such musicians as Hamilton de Holanda, Philippe Baden Powell, Marco Perreira, Jérome Barde, Marc-Michel Le Bévillon, Zé Luis Nascimento, Captain Mercier, Benoît Sourisse, Ricardo Tete & Danilo Moraes, Marcello Preto, Ricardo Herz, Orquestra do Fubà, Inor Sotolongo, Irving Acao, Felipe Cabrera, Babx, Mighty Mo Rogers, Yusa, William Vivanco, Little Sun…
