Born in the Parish of Trelawney, Jamaica on the 10th March 1962 MATTBLACK came to the UK to be reunited with Ivan and Rhoda in December 1969. Ivan had immigrated to the UK shortly before MATTBLACK was born, Rhoda soon followed when MATTBLACK was 9 months old.
This was very typical for young Parents at that time, and also for many others wishing to take up the challenges and employment prospects that were being "offered" to them by Countries such as England, America and Canada. These were just some of the decisions and sacrifices they had to make in order to try to build a better" Life for themselves and those of their immediate Family.
MATTBLACK and his elder Sister Angela, were therefore raised by their Paternal Grandmother Emily Campbell.
As an Elder in the Church which She had helped to establish many years prior, Stamily (as She was known by) was a devoted Minister, Dress Maker and Farmer, She laboured relentlesly assisted only by the Powers of Her Faith and Her very strong belief in GOD and the Scriptures. Emily (May GOD Grant Her Peace and Eternal Rest) has therefore been a very strong and ever present influence in the life of MATTBLACK.
This showcase presented to you is a very personal collection of Songs that MATTBLACK have been putting together for the past 15 years or more. Many are written, and all are performed by MATTBLACK, some are obviously covers of the Late Great Right Honourable ROBERT NESTA MARLEY, (May GOD Grant Him Peace and Eternal Rest) who has probably influenced all the great Singers, Songwriters, Performers, Political and Social Reformists of the present day. BOB'S Songs have touched the Hearts and Souls of all who have listened to them..myself included of course.
I just hope to come even a little bit close to the Great Works and the very Powerful Legacy BOB MARLEY has left us in His passing. I guess I am trying to reitterate some of those teachings of Peace, Love, Knowledge, Wisdom and Understanding to the Youth and to all those who are seeking the TRUTH and the reasons for Our existance in this very short Life of Ours.
"This particular Selection is really a "taster" of many more things to come. I am now, and always have.. been working on new material, my Life will always revolve around Music, which is without a doubt the inner- most center of my Universe". So please just judge this Show simply for what MATTBLACK is trying for..to "SHARE da KNOWLEDGE".
