Influences
Born in Liverpool...Born with the Love of the Beatles and their fantastic influence. While many bands could be listed here as influence, I will say this:
the day Matt saw Crossroads he picked a guitar up and never put it down since then: for those of you not familiar with the movie: this is about unlocking the mysteries of the Blues, with a rich mixture of Delta Blues and driving rock, ending with an unbelievable guitar battle involving Steve Vai . Matt is also driven by the Great: Jimmy Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, John Mayall, John Martin, Eric Johnson and many more.
Sounds Like
It sounds like nothing else!
This is original work, the album documents life as well as the musical journey and its experiences. The technical skills and the feel of the album are unique because it is based on true and real situations, it is the result of many years experiencing, gigging and writting.
A little background info. Matt was born in Liverpool (UK) into an environment of football, music and art. After spending most of his teenage years playing with friends and local bands, an opportunity to join an old friends band in Ireland arose. This move proved invaluable, as it was an introduction to a new world of music from all cultures.
Now living in Clonakilty, West Cork, Ireland, Matt has worked with many well known musicians and is currently touring with Roy Harper as the opening act and playing lead guitar along side Roy in the main performance. As well as proving himself as a competent collaborator, Matt is now developing his skills as a solo instrumentalist.
'Blue Stars’ the album (see Matt's website media page for a the tracks preview!) is Matt’s first album and consists of 11 original instrumental acoustic pieces, drawing influences from Rock, Blues, Folk, Country and will be released in February 2007. Matt writes and records on an on going basis and will be releasing more albums in collaboration with Laurie Hedger (who recorded Blue Stars the album). Please post comments on mySpace and Matt's website, it's part of the drive and the journey.
