MATTEO BORTONE - double bass, electric bass
Born in Otranto (Salento, Italy) on 10/15/1982, began to play classical piano at the age of 8, the guitar at 12 and the electric bass at 13 before starting to play double bass. He moved to Milan at 17 where he studied at university for 5 years getting a degree in Tourism. He studied then at CEM school in Gallarate where he began studying bass and double bass with Massimo Moriconi in 2002-2003. He had private lessons with Angelo Quatrale, Paolino Dalla Porta and Attilio Zanchi. In Milan he played as sideman in several bands and in many competitions as Milano Voci Contromano, Ethno- Music Competition, Scorribande.
In September 2005 he moved to Paris where he studies jazz, harmony, arrangement, ear training and Atelier with Jacques Vidal, Emil Spanyi, Pierre Bertrand, Pierre Carrié and Malo Vallois at Conservatoire Nadia et Lili Boulanger (joining directly the 3rd level in double bass) and ENDM school in Montreuil.
Right now he lives between Paris and Italy working as a sideman in concerts and in studio.
He has been selected to attend the CNSMDP (Conservatoire Superieur de Paris) in 2007-2008 where he will study with Riccardo Del Fra, Dré Pallemaerts, François Theberge, Glenn Ferris.
At SIENA JAZZ 2007 he won a scolarship to attend the same workshop in 2008. At SIENA JAZZ 2008 he won another scolarship to represent Siena Jazz and Italy at the 19th Edition of the IASJ (International Association of Schools of Jazz) in Switzerland (June 2009).
- 1st prize winner at REZZO competition (Jazz in Vienne 2008) with the band OXYD.
- BEST BAND prize winner at Fara Music competition (Fara Sabina, Rome 2009) with TRAVELERS.
