    Matthew's Interests
GeneralMostly writing and theater, though I'm also a big fan of movies and TV
MusicListening to a lot of the following lately - Christopher Dallman, They Might Be Giants, Glenn Shope, The Mountain Goats, Aimee Mann, Warren Zevon, Shawn Colvin, Jackson Browne, Suzanne Vega, Bruce Springsteen, Mary-Chapin Carpenter, James Taylor, Ben Folds Five, Sting, Lyle Lovett - I look to song lyrics for writing inspiration a lot, so singer-songwriter types tend to float to the top.
MoviesFavorite movie - Casablanca - Movies I'm fond of lately - Brokeback Mountain, Latter Days, The Broken Hearts Club - I'm kind of a Netflix addict so it changes with the tide, but all of the above are in my permanent collection - along with any movie that has Cyrille Thouvenin in it (I just wish he'd make better movies, I feel kind of guilty owning them just because he's talented and pretty)
TelevisionAddicted to dramas that end up being short-lived, unfortunately - anything from the house of Herskovitz and Zwick (Once and Again, My So-Called Life, Relativity, thirtysomething, etc.) - Queer As Folk (the British version is amazing, the American got better toward the end but it was a LONG wait) - Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Everwood - OK, let's see, something currently actually on the air - The Amazing Race, Battlestar Galactica
Booksanything by Michael Cunningham (Flesh & Blood, The Hours, A Home At The End of the World, etc.), Gabriel Garcia Marquez (One Hundred Years of Solitude), the poetry of e.e. cummings and W.H. Auden - I really need to read more. I miss it. I always end up writing instead. Favorite plays, in no particular order, would be - Shakespeare's As You Like It and Twelfth Night, Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard and Uncle Vanya, John Guare's Landscape of the Body and Six Degrees of Separation, Tony Kushner's Angels In America (both parts, though I'm a little more partial to part two), and William Finn's Falsettos
HeroesHmmm... outside my immediate and extended family and friends? That's a really good question. I'll have to ponder that some...

About me:
************************************************************ I've been lax about putting anything here, mostly because I already have a website - www.matthewaeverett.com, where the bulk of my stuff lives - scenes and monologues from plays, screenplays and TV scripts I write, blog entries, bio, resume, pictures, the usual. I spend the lion's share of my online time there. So if you're really curious, check that out for more info. I'll also try linking there through blog entries here, just to make things easier.
Who I'd like to meet:
Any and all folks who are going to be part of the Minnesota Fringe Festival this summer - both locals and visitors. But I don't get out enough as it is (working two day jobs, you know how that goes), so I'd be open to chatting with whoever.

Hello!!

If you're around on Thursday, December 10th, we are playing a show at Mario's Keller Bar. I don't know if you've been there, but it's a very cool place. It's a comfortable space, the room sounds great and they have a stellar beer selection.

Also, we will be playing ALL NIGHT! We'll play some funky, bluesy, and soulful music. We'll project live video onto a 9 ft screen. We'll play some older material that hasn't been heard in awhile, as well as some brand new songs that've never been heard. All bets are off!! We'd love it if you'd come down and listen/party with us!

Here are the details:

Hope to see ya there!!!

Peace,
Elliot

Hey there!!

I just wanted to stop by and say hello! I hope that the coming week brings you fun adventures, relaxation, and contentment :)

I was going to go camping over the weekend, but this is definitely NOT camping weather. So me and some friends went to check out Dueling Pianos. Those guys are amazing - they can play just about any song that's been on the radio between 1950 and 2005.

Anyways, I wanted to let you know about a show we have @ Station 4 on Friday, October 16th. We are debuting a series of one time only performance art pieces. This one is called "AN OBJECT TO CRAVE". Live music and visuals based on a short story about life, love, loss, fantasy, obsession and death.

Another group of mine, The Magnetrons, which plays an exciting and innovative Livetronica set (i.e. STS9, Disco Biscuits, The Histronic) will also be playing. The night will be full of creative, interesting, high-energy music, good drinks and good times.

Here's the info:

Blood Root Mother - "An Object to Crave"
w/ The Magnetrons & Thought Thieves
Friday, October 16th
Station 4
201 E 4th St

We'd love to see ya there!

Once again, Jake Walden has shared something so very special. Take a moment and watch, listen. Hopefully his music will touch you in a very special way and you will seek out and embrace all that he has to give. Once you do, you will know, at that very moment that he is like no other...

Please share this with your friends... with love

In Jake’s words ~ “A Case of You”

"There are few songs that remain constants for me. This song is for my Mom who's birthday is this week. A Case of You along with so many Joni songs have been the bridge between us and helped in growing our friendship throughout my adult life. Blue, the album this is off of was a seminal piece of work in my Mom's life, and luckily it became the same for me. There really are no words to say how much this song means to me, as a writer, a singer and a hopeless romantic. I find it's meanings to be endless and I hope in this little moment, in that tiny room with that old microphone I was able to capture just that.

Peace, Jake"

Hello!

I just wanted to stop by to say hello and give you a little update on what Blood Root Mother is up to! We will be recording an EP of new music in August, and we recently finished recording a live DVD. The DVD is currently unreleased and I actually just saw it for the first time a few days ago. It features the last two performances with Tony Ellis still alive, and some footage from the tribute show we played on the night of his funeral.

There are some cool covers, as well as some NEW music that will be on our upcoming EP. We're very excited about the new music and we'd like to share a sneak peak with you. Here's a video of a new tune called Run Bobby Run:

Let us know what you think!

Hello! Easter Sunday sTEAp Sessions will be taking place at the Caterpillar Lounge from 5pm-10pm!!! Grab some friends and come on down for a little Sunday Afternoon Funday! This is sure to be a great time. I hope you can make it!

Easter sTEAp

Twin Cities Cross Promotions Network and Robbie Lee, BeatMD would like cordially invite you to a very special Easter Sunday edition of sTEAp! Additionally, this will be the final going away party for our dear friend Ms. Jen Hustler, as she makes her move to beautiful San Diego, California! WE WILL MISS YOU HUSSIE!

Easter sTEAp takes place Sunday, April 12, 2009 from 5pm-10pm at the Caterpillar Lounge, located on 26th & Nicollet in Minneapolis. Many of you are already very familiar with this space and I hope you will be able to attend! This is a new venture for the Caterpillar Lounge, as they have yet to actually have a afternoon dance/social session! The weather forecast says it will be a mild spring day, with temps in the mid-50's. Let's show the Caterpillar Lounge how we like our Sunday Afternoon recovery sessions! IN STYLE!

DJ Jam E-Z will kick off the event with a 2-hour vinyl set from 5pm-7pm and I (Robbie Lee, BeatMD) will take over the mills from 7pm-10pm. Who knows, I may even decide to bring some vinyl treats myself, if I can stand carrying the extra 50lbs of music! (LOL) Regardless, you will be certain to hear the sounds that take you underground and into the depths of the doctor!

Finally, if you do plan to attend, please feel free to invite those friends who you hold near and dear. Without you and yours, Twin Cities Cross Promotion Network cannot make this event a success. It takes a village to raise a child and you all are part of this village!

All My Love and Beats are meant for you & you & you &...

rXXX,
Robbie Lee, BeatMD

Matthew,

How's it going? I'm excited to let you know that I'm starting my monthy gig at 318 Café in Excelsior on Wednesday April 8th. This will be the first in a series of shows where I play with other singer/songwriters, and Caleb Hawley will join me for next week's performance.
I'd love it if you'd consider coming out! 318's food is truly delicious, and it's only 20 miles from downtown Minneapolis :) Hope to see you there!

Peace,
Kevin
