Matthew Dowling began his DJ career in 1988 in a large Chicago suburban club, 'Ms. Monroe’s'. At an earlier age he began listing to mixes on the radio and found himself truly inspired to the turntables by Chicago’s Edward 'Get Down' Crosby. His smooth, deep soulful mixes were different and unique from the rest, and Matthew still credits his beginnings to Edward to this day.
Ms. Monroe’s was very unique in that near by resided one of the worlds leading accounting schools, Arthur Anderson. Bus load after Bus load of young college students from the campus would pile into the club to hear Matthew Dowling spin his soulful sounds. They were from Brazil, Italy, Japan, London, Spain, all over the Globe. Quickly adapting he spent many hours in record stores finding the best House
Music from Chicago, New York, and all the import gems he
could find to bring to his global audience.
Years passed, and Matthew Dowling was offered a residency at the famed Division St. club 'Eddie Rockets' where he continued to hone his artful sounds. Matthew & Tony Mundaca were the Kings of Division Street's row of nightclubs and learned a great deal from each other. Soon they became close friends, often doing sets together at 'P.S. Chicago' and 'Poets'
A turning point in Matthew’s career was a chance meeting with Frankie Knuckles. From that time forward Frankie directly & indirectly truly honed Matthew into the world class DJ he is today. One only need to open his mind to Frankie’s wide base of knowledge. Frankie along with David Morales & Judy Weinstein were changing the world of house music, and Matthew was very supportive.
At one point or another, Matthew Dowling was booked or resided at practically every major club venue in Chicago and recorded several radio guest spots. He also resided at the 2nd incarnation of 'The Warehouse' on Randolph & Halsted. with Joe Smooth & Mike Dunn. After deciding He wasn’t happy with Chicago’s lagging in the House music scene, for which it had become so famous for helping to
create, He felt it better to take a few years away to pursue other interests. In 2008 He returned to the industry with the 'World Mix' DJ sets proving He’s still one of the best world class DJs around. Matthew Dowling is currently available for residency and bookings again.
