   About Matthew Hindson
I am an Australian composer and studied at the Universities of Sydney and Melbourne. Other than composing, I also working in the Arts Music Unit of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, part of the University of Sydney.

My main raison d'etre is music composition. I have been fortunate in that my music is regularly performed all over the world. I've had relationships with many organizations including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, The Queensland Orchestra, Musica Viva Australia, the Sydney Youth Orchestra and most recently, Orchestras Australia.

If you're interested in a more extensive bio in about my compositional career, please visit the link at my publishers, Faber Music.

When people ask, "what type of music do you write", it's a difficult question to answer. My music often displays influences of popular music styles within a classical music context. So for example, my fundamental musical style is influenced by techno music, but I write music for acoustic ensembles such as orchestras or string quartets. It doesn't always sound like techno, but I think that its influences, such as driving repeated rhythms and a general sense directness and immediacy can be immediately observed.

I do other things in addition to composing music. It is very enjoyable to write music textbooks, and one example has been recently released, entitled "Music Composition Toolbox", published by Science Press. I am also the progenitor and artistic director of the Aurora Festival, a new festival of contemporary music based in Westen Sydney that premiered in April 2006.

Hello Matthew,

Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yes, I think you have Hallmark down there, but I'm not 100% sure of that. If you have Hallmark stores, then you should be able to find Barry's Christmas CD there.

How's it going with you? I see you've got some performances coming up in the Sydney Opera House, congratulations! I'm hoping to get down to Australia again sometime, I had great experiences there with Absolute, especially the Sydney Opera House show, that was great. Loved it in Adelaide too; great white wine!

cheers,
matt

Dear Matthew,

Very culturally rich and eclectic music. I enjoyed listening to all the samples. I am very glad our paths crossed in cyberspace. Perhaps in the real world some day. Be well and keep on making a difference in the world. Sorry for taking so long to respond, but I have been constantly in transit (in Beijing right now).

All best wishes,
Christos Hatzis

Dear Matthew,
I am really enjoying your music. I remember playing through one of your pieces (for violin duo I think) with Peter Neville on marimbas about 13 years ago. It even may have been the 1st track you have posted. Little Chrissietina? Cheers. Steve
