Matthew John Band is an American/Finnish folk band formed in 2006 and headed by singer-songwriter Matthew John (Matthew John Dorman; born San Diego, California). Matthew John grew up in Santa Barbara, California, where he earned a PhD in ethnomusicology at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
The band is based in Helsinki, Finland, and the current lineup includes: Matthew John (acoustic guitar and vocals), Alvar “Bonk” Gullichsen (percussion and background vocals), Rami Kinnunen (electric guitar), and Kaj Appel (bass). Their musical style is highly influenced by traditional sounds as well contemporary urban folk, psychedelic folk-rock and various worldbeat styles. Percussionist Alvar Gullichsen, a notable Finnish painter, uses an eclectic set of percussion instruments centered around African hand drums. The band’s core repertoire — penned by Matthew John — features characteristically rhythmic pieces with lyrics that frequently combine contemporary world events with esoterica.

Them Bird Things kohosi esikoisalbumillaan “Fly, Them Bird things, Fly!” yhdeksi vuoden 2009 kohutuimmista yhtyeistä. Bändi valmistautuu parhaillaan uuden levyn nauhoituksiin. Tammikuun minikiertueella kuullaan jo julkaistujen kappaleiden lisäksi paljon uutta materiaalia.
Haven't heard from you in a while. I hope everything is fine with you and your wife. You know? I was thinking of your mom's birthday, it was yesterday (27th) wasn't it? Saludos, abrazos y besos desde Mexico
