With debut album 'Edgewise' (also the name of his backing band) now out, Matthew Ryan Woods is gearing up for what could be big things in 2008. Matthew self-produced/engineered the record in Edmonton, and is just back from the Farm studios in Vancouver where he finished production. With Scott Ternan as mixing engineer, the whole album really unfolded over a period of 8 days. Matt recorded and edited the tracks over a 10 month span, and felt that it would then be best to get Scott to handle engineering the mixes. "We basically lived at the Farm for those 8 days and I can probably count, on one hand, how many times I saw the sun. That might be in part because it is Vancouver", he quips, "but more to do with the fact that we just buckled down hard and got right into it. When you catch a bit of momentum, you're best off running with it as far as it will go."
The new record is already making waves around Edmonton, and is pre-selling faster than expectations. "When you tell people you're making a record, and like, a year goes by and you're still working at it- that's a lot of time to hype it up," he laughs, "I'd like to think it's carefully planned that way, but it's just that these things take time. You can't compromise your standards and you definitely can't rush things. I want to have a record that I can listen to as well."
Hey...thanx for being our friend and all...I program weekly radio in Vancouver and am on the hunt for political, social, working class and drinking songs to play on the show. Let me know if you think your songs qualify cause I would want your disk...take it easy, happy new year!
Hey Matt... Thanks for making contact. The record sounds great. We've just posted the first song from our new record called Finding Ways to selFDestruct. Different style, but the attention to tunesmithery is the same!
You bet. It would be great to hang with you again ,bro. I've hooked up with some really cool people here in SASK. I have a promo/booking agent getting a tour lined up for late spring/summer. You interested? I'll be looking to put a band together for that. I have been given the great opprotunity to perform a showcase at the SCMA awards gala weekend April 12. It is starting to look like a very busy year coming up. I'm doing a bit of sideman gigs playing bass for some country acts on the side. Take Care Matty
hey buddy! How the hell are ya? Can't wait to check out your album. What else is new? It's great to see you sticking to a music career. Hope to see ya soon sometime.
