record loving improvising teenager (piano and saxophone). studied music thinking it would be equivalent to studying art but with sound instead of paint (not quite right). ended up doing a phd looking at the idea of musical meaning via the theory and practice of free improvisation. during this time worked intensively with Ross Lambert for around 5 years. became interested in clubbing (sheffield scene of the 90s), started djing, bought sampler, embarked on a beat-based journey. worked as a music lecturer at university's of derby, newcastle and now surrey (guildford) teaching computer-based composition and improvisation. after numerous collaborations with a variety of artists, am now producing mostly sound installations. perform 'live' on laptop now and again. beats have pretty much vanished and wandering around with binaural mics and various bits of field recording gear taken over.
Hey Matt. Was good seeing you up in Newcastle, would liked to have talked but I think it was chicken casserole night and had to get home to put it in the oven...Tracks are sounding lovely btw. Have you given up on decks too or just the beats, still djing?
