Matthias and the Cry: A COLLABORATION OF WORLD RHYTHMS AND SOUL
Matthias takes the East coast to the West coast and back again. With a childhood of
strumming the blues on his guitar in the subways of New York City and a family of
California art industry executives, he collaborates his blues soul with a funk form of
folk to produce songs that reach people’s hearts and minds.
Interview with Elizabeth Clark 7/10/09
"where does your music come from?" "what makes a song great?" "who are your idols?"
My music comes from my community. I grew up in Greenwich Village surrounded by a multitude of musical influences. I played classical, folk, funk, rock, afrocuban, rnb, soul, bebop postbop, swing, klezmer. and I played with the pioneers of west african Hi Life music when i was 17. I played with the top dixieland guys in california too.
“and what has that experience done for YOUR music?”
It taught me to find the truth in whatever voice was doing the singing. Its like BB King says: There are only 2 kinds of music, good and not so good. I discovered that styles have DNA melodic, harmonic and rhythmic and if I really relax with a groove, and get out of my own way, I can find my voice in that particular style.
i love ensemble.
i love what happens with beats, voice and dance
The Cry is a unifying force. Our music makes people feel glad to be alive.
"and what is this hot new project all about?"
The aim of the cry is to awaken the world to our common joy
The Cry raises awareness of the preciousness of life.
We aim to get people to feel musical and happy to be alive.
Music is an end in itself
Music is the destination
Music is the language of vibration
Music is the state of equalibrium
There is a collective funkconscoius-ness
"what about your music is diff than others that allows for it to raise consciousness?"
Music is my nature, as is enlightenment. The Cry is a space making multi dimensional machine. We create the space to be ourselves. We create room in which to live. By the uplifting , expansive sound we generate more space for happiness and peace is created. We also place in that space the words which carry their own vibration of self discovery
I am a soul man. I love music. I love it so much you gonna love it too.
It is our very essence
Music is life
Music is all there really is
Quantum theory explains it very well
Nothing exists but the interplay of energy
There is nothing but love, and music is its math
The formula for everlasting truth is written in melody. just look at Amazing Grace
that melody is as old as human beings are
