The Stockholm-based composer and sound artist Mattias Petersson's music has been described as a mix between experimental electronica, electro-acoustic, industry and crackling noise. Since the critically acclaimed debut album "Mimer" (Fylkingen Records, 2003), which was based upon sounds from a defunct iron mine, Petersson's industrial soundscape has been mixed with clean waveforms, piano and orchestra samples, often treated through dirty filters and digital distortion.
Mattias also released some music on his own label "Wickerwork Recordings", and contributes with a track on the recently released MP3 compilation "The Post_piano2 Open Remix Project" on the renowned label 12k.
Besides working as solo artist he also collaborates with video artist and musician Fredrik Olofsson, musicians like Sabine Vogel, Lise-Lotte Norelius, George Kentros, Mattias Sköld and a lot of others.
His music has been heard all over the world and, besides all the major cities in Sweden, he also played (or where played) in Berlin, Helsinki, La Habana, Tokyo, Oslo, Riga...
Hi and thanks for the friendship! Here’s a video from our most recent tour, in March-April. In an attempt to merge traditions of improvisation in Vietnamese and contemporary Western culture, this is a performance of Tu Dai Oán, a traditional Vietnamese song. In this performance with Thanh Thuy (playing the dan tranh), Stefan Östersjö (playing 10-string guitar) and Henrik Frisk (laptop), this traditional tune is overlapped with free improvisation with electronics. The performance is from a Scandinavian tour in spring 2009 with The Six Tones, a Swedish/Vietnamese project merging traditional and experimental music. The video was recorded at Atalante in Gothenburg by Niklas Rydén. Stay in touch, all best!/The Six Tones
