Influences
I have to be honest and say that over the last few years I've found that I haven't really been influenced by any major bands but more from the constant stream of music that I hear from the group of local musicians I know. Without doubt the biggest musical influences in my world right now are people like Jimmy O'neill,Wes Finch and Garfield Mayor, people who are playing and writing songs that mean far more to me than anything any major lable has produced in years. Wake up and smell the coffee, the real music is happening all around you every day of every week. You just need to take the time to find it and believe me......its worth every second of your search.
Sounds Like
I hate this question.
I sound like the memory of your first love strangely dragged out mid-argument with your conscience over whether you're going to be fired or not for wanting to take that one heart breaking risk that could bring you the world but somehow you worry it has already slipped you by. The memory fills your head with sadness that this first love is no longer around but joy that they were around at all and somehow it gets you through the day whilst your soul is sucked up from your chest and out through your face and into the monitor of your corporate owned 10 year old PC.
So I finally managed to get a bunch of folk in a room for long enough to learn a couple of my songs!! What can I say....I love the band!! It consists of some of the most talented musicians in Coventry and somehow they managed to make my tunes sound pretty damn good!! If you get a chance then please come along to a gig, they're all updated in the diary bit of this page.
If you would like to offer your support/comments or suggestions on the band then look for the Facebook group 'Matt Lakey & the Whatever', add yo'self and let us know what you think or would like to see.
We're currently trying to decide on whether to keep the name as it is. the sentiment is split down the middle with some liking it and others not so much.Let's see what happens!
Also, watch this space for some great news on the horizon. It's early days yet but with fingers crossed things could well be looking up for us!!
Resurrection Men are performing this Wednesday at The Nursery Tavern in an acoustic environment for the first (and possibly last) time! With Johnny Nicholds & Friends and Chloe Juliette Evans.
We are playing at The Nursery Tavern, Coventry on 25th June with Wes Finch & The Dirty Band and Scattered Sons (featuring members of The Treehorns and Shackletons)
Hey there, Its misha (one of the idiots trying to pull march 20th together) Just to let you know we might have to beg you to play a longer set since Cedrick has had to pull out and we havn't found a replacement yet. Hope you're well. Misha x
Hey Matt...thanks for welcoming me into your space. It's truly wonderful to know such a gifted songwriter and musician! You have the most beautiful voice that kisses the soul! Looking forward to hearing you play live again...soon!! Love & light Andréa xx :)
Hi Matt, what a shame I only saw your message now that I'm back in Bournemouth! I would've liked to have met up and got sloshed on posh monk ale and talked shite all night. Filthy Cake have their 1st Cov gig in a year and a half on 5th Feb at the Beer Engine, so maybe see you there...? Emma :-)
