About Me:
My name is Matt Martin; I am a freelance audio engineer and musician from Philadelphia. I have been studying the fine art of music and recording for over 12 years. Making music is my life. Whether I am playing with my band or recording a client, there is nothing that compares to the feeling of creating art and fixing it into a tangible form. I love working with people who are just as passionate and committed to their art as I am.
In May of 2007 I earned my Bachelors of Music degree from Lebanon Valley College. There I focused my studies in the field of Music Recording Technology. The program was a diverse and comprehensive course of study that included classes in electronics, acoustical design, digital audio, physics, Tonmeister techniques, mastering, music theory, music history, and ear-training for engineers.
During my time at LVC I was fortunate enough experience many things that I most likely would have never been able to have otherwise. I studied with and assisted world renowned acoustician and architect John Storyk. Mr. Storyk has designed and built studios for everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Alicia Keys and is very well respected in the industry. I was also given the position of Studio Manager during my senior year and was responsible for the general upkeep, repair, & maintenance of three campus recording studios as well as scheduling and payment of engineers for recital recordings. As part of my studies I completed an internship in the Audio Department of NFL Films. There I assisted with many voiceover sessions, mixes, My education was an amazing stepping stone and wealth of knowledge to base my continued studies of the art of recording.
My real world experience comes from years of freelance recording in various studios, rehearsal spaces, recital halls, concert venues, and theaters throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. I attribute much of my experience to years of running live sound. Since 2003 I have been the Chief Audio Engineer for the Delaware County Summer Festival Concert Series at Rose Tree Park. Running the front of house mixes with a very small government budget has helped me hone my skills without being able to rely on high quality equipment or technology. I feel the ever changing and high pressure demands of live sound has shaped the type of recording engineer that I am today.
