i like a lot a stuff, ok, here is a list in no particular order, calypso, small island pride, lord kitchener, beginner, brynner, commander, invader, I dig mento, which is what happened to calypso when it reached jamaica, the best example ive found is called booga yagga gal, by count lasher, great funny songs with a stripped down african feeling, then moving into ska and rocksteady, alton eliis and the work he did with the heptones is really nice, cant go wrong with the skatalites, then, you know bob marley, pretty much defines reggae, and very little gets better (though Im open to suggestions) in fact I seem to be following this progression of carribean music, beginning with the roots of calypso in Trinidad, and following it around, until jamaica, and then following the history of jamaican music, which is endlessly fascinating. I do listen to some modern stuff, I like radiohead (of course) Ive been listening to alot of pink floyd (more, obscured by clouds and meddle) lately, i really like american analog set, stereolab, and belle and sebastian, you know, beatles, and some jazz, alice and john coltrane, moldy peaches are way cool, I like all the music my friends make, shout out to electric log, i could keep going, maybe Ill post a good playlist in my blog. ok, recent favorite

Movies
I like so many movies, love b-movies, especially 50's sci-fi, the day the earth stood still, earth vs. the flying saucers, and war of the worlds(1953), i like most of the coen bros stuff, and all the stuff charlie kaufman has written, pt anderson, kubrick, Im afraid Zombie movies are a guilty pleasure of mine, I used to watch every gory movie I could get my hands on in high school, so i like those italian gore flicks by lucio fulci. A recent favorite is Donnie Darko, and oh yeah, richard kelly has a new movie called southland tales coming out next year, looking forward to that, you have to like 80's teen angst flicks, 70's exploitation flicks, russ meyers, there is a film that sun ra made called "space is the place" it could be one of the best films ever made (as far as it actually appeals to my peculiar tastes) sci-fi, exploitation, political diatribe with an avante garde jazz soundtrack, and naked women. finally, I just saw "rockers" 1978, its a reggae movie, with tons of great performances, almost incomprehensible dialogue, and just cool rasta vibes.
Television
tv in japan sucks, I dont even own a tv, I do watch
democracy now religiously, i got hooked on "six feet under" before i left the states, it's funny, the daily show on comedy central says at the beginning, "the most important show ever" or something to that effect, i wonder if they realise how true it really is. does youtube count?

About me:
My name is matt muirhead i live in baltimore, MD. I just went around the world on a ship, the
peaceboat, I love to travel, Im really into filesharing
soulseek username "eichino" (with lots of great music to share) i like most stuff from the 60..s musicwise, Im an artist, there is nothing I like more than to sit down and make something. over the last year I have really expanded my repertoire of mediums, Ive started making jewelry, silver, working with metal is really rewarding, I find copper to be perhaps the most beautiful substance on the planet (next to water)
, i used to live in chicago, before that I lived in Toledo Ohio, its a boring-as-fuck sort of place, but the people I chose to surround myself with are some of the coolest people in the world, and thanks to myspace Im able to keep in touch with them. travel is great but whenever I think of where my home is, I think of the Glass city!
Here in Tokyo I teach one to one english to japanese people, its a fun job that sits me down for 45 minutes at a time, and I just talk to people although slagged no end by most gaijin, I find it to be extremely rewarding.
your paintings are awesome. i look at them and sometimes they are 3 dimensional so much that they look like they're coming out of the wall. dave's got them placed just right at his house so that when you sit on the couch and look at them, they're like sculptures.
hello Mattmatt. I'm taking Monday off. On Sunday, I'm going to Pikesville for my friend's passover (only i'm not staying for passover, bad jew, bad jew). Then I'm driving... somewhere... probably baltimore...
