Matt Novak's sound is spare and thoughtful, evoking a simple rurality through wistful narration. His songwriting demonstrates a wonderfully unique blending of traditional aesthetics with contemporary sentiment. Well-regarded and postively reviewed, his albums and performances have done well for their old-timey melancholia soothed with authenticity in truth and experience. You will find "no howling, no mewling, no affected weariness, just the startlingly clear observations of a man who knows love, friendship, labor, the road, and the weird way our plentiful times can leave folks hungering for something else."
Matt has served as the frontman for Bellingham-based Quickdraw String Band for the last five years, as well as carving out the time to write, record, and perform his original songs. His solo career has steadily been gaining momentum since the release of his debut album, Ten Valley, in November of 2004, Quickdraw's "Blasting Caps" in the summer of 2005, and most recently has seen the release of his second solo recording, Middle River, in August of 2007.
