Son of Fairport Convention bass player Dave Pegg, Matt's credits include top icons Procol Harum, Jethro Tull, Ian Brown, and The Drifters, among other notables and has done countless high profile sessions. Kicking off at age 16 with a band called Blinder, who would tour on occasion in the late 80's with Francis Dunnery's band, It Bites (Blinder later became Polygram recording artists, Headswim), Matt’s next role was to stand in for his father on a Jethro Tull world tour. He also played on several Tull studio recordings (such as Catfish Rising) and was, for many years, Ian Anderson’s first choice.
Merging once again with Dunnery in 1999/ 2000, he played what most people consider to be his best work to date on the CD, "Man". Of his performance, Francis said, "No one plays my music like Matt, he plays everything exactly as it should be played." He played bass guitar on Francis Dunnery's albums "Fearless", "Man" and as a duo on "Hometown".
Matt also appears on Ian Brown's hit CD, "Music Of The Spheres" as well as Ian's latest record, "The World Is Yours" (featuring Sinead O'Connor) and subsequently performed "live" on several concerts with Ian.
Chris Difford recruited him to play on his new solo album and, once again, Matt delivered another fantastic performance as he did on Stephen Harris’s CD, "Songs From The Mission Of Hope" (check out some outstanding bass playing, reminiscent of a youthful Jaco Pastorius!)
Having joined Procol Harum in 1993, Matt has toured the world over the past 15 years and is still going strong today! Described by Francis Dunnery as "a reliable and extremely hard working musician", Matt Pegg is a serious bass player... and a complete one-off!
