there are only two types - good and bad. Although I always come back to my unbridled love of Jazz, 50's R'n'B, 60's Soul + Blues, if I'm forced to mention a few names, I'm currently grooving to: Ray Charles, Little Richard, Lewis Taylor, Fats Domino, Miles Davis, William Bell, Little Milton, Richie Havens, Ike + Tina (live '71 is rockin'!), The Stones, Bobby "Blue" Bland, John Scofield, BB King, The Roots, King Curtis, Stanton Moore, The Chocolate Watch Band, Charles Lloyd, James Hunter, The Channels, Albert King, The Small Faces, The Band, The Impressions, Dr. Lonnie Johnson, Elvis, Flying Burrito Bros., Etta James, Weller, Booker T + the MG's, Neil Young, Edgar "Jones" Jones, Oscar Peterson, Dylan, Love, Curtis Mayfield, The Beach Boys, Charlie Watts tentet/Big Band, The Kinks, Early Santana, Al Green, Bebel Gilberto, Charlie Parker, The La's, Detroit Cobras, Richard Hawley, John Coltrane, The Meters, the Players, Chuck Berry, Dr John, CSN, Gram Parsons, Stephen Stills, Buddy Rich, Ella Fitzgerald, Tito Puente, The Beatles, Johnnie Johnson, Her Space Holiday, The Ronettes .... and many many more!

here's me doing some drum tracks in the studio on my little Gretsch's ...
Treat yourself to a copy of a very fine album I MUST TELL YOU THIS by The Lucas Group featuring me on drums here:
MP3 I Must Tell You This - FOLK: Modern Folk The one and only album from lost Modern-English folk troubadours, The Lucas Group. Earthy and beauti<...> Details
marvellous!
Movies
too many to mention, but one of the best has got to be The Italian Job (Micheal Caine, 1969 - THE ORIGINAL, NOT THE TERRIBLE REMAKE!)... also worthy of mention: Wattstax, Standing in the Shadows of Mowtown, Gimme Shelter, Star Wars and The Lavender Hill Mob, and more recently, Ray :)
Television
'tis the devils box! But I always find time for THE SIMPSONS, FATHER TED or CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM (thanks to the wonders of Tangfastics, sunny San Mateo and the best of friends! xox)
Books
reading is good ... currently on "Curtis Mayfield - People Never Give Up" by Peter Burns ... which is nice ... and the new copy of classic drummer magazine ... which is nerdy!
Heroes
we've all got 'em ....
You Are Animal
A complete lunatic, you're operating on 100% animal instincts.
You thrive on uncontrolled energy, and you're downright scary.
But you sure can beat a good drum.
"Kill! Kill!"
About me: It's all about music ..... I'm a musician, a pro drummer ..... for hire!
My experience is varied and I've played all over the place - from London to Jo'Burg, Dubai to Frankfurt, Muscat to Middlesbrough, Leeds to Lugano ... not to mention playing Glastonbury 2009 with Johnny Mars band and DJing there in 2000 just before David Bowie's set! I listen to all kinds of music - so my drumming influences are mixed, but they include Charlie Watts, Earl Palmer, Steve Jordan, Buddy Rich, Ginger Baker, Jim Keltner, Al Jackson Jr., Stanton Moore, Steve Gadd, Sonny Freeman & Fred Below (the deepest of shuffles!), Levon Helm, Pete Thomas, Steve White, Elvin Jones, Ringo, anyone who played with Ray Charles, Michael Shreive, Art Blakey and well .... there's just too many to mention!
I'm known as a Blues/Jazz/R&B player mostly, but I have worked with many people in a range of styles - From studio sessions to UK & international touring, percussion accompaniment to teaching etc.. and have worked with artists from the worlds of Pop, Rock, Folk, Jazz, R&B and Blues.
You can catch me playing live with the rather fantatsic MICHAEL ROACH BAND , the awesome Chicago Diva that is ANGELA BROWN, R&B & Soul legend JIMMY THOMAS , or dirty garage R&B combo THE DIRTY ROBBERS amongst others. I'm often seen laying down some fat shuffles with my Rhythm & Blues Brethren, PAUL CORRY (Honkin' Horn & slinky Geetaw), DANNY McCORMACK (Funky Hammond & Piano genius), ROGER INNISS (Bass Supremo & time lord!) and OLIVER DARLING (R&B jedi). My recent credits include JOHNNY MARS, DEITRA FARR, the wonderful AMBERSHADES, Rock Guitar Hero BERNIE MARSDEN, UK swing sensations KING PLEASURE & THE BISCUIT BOYS, greasey Detroit-esque rockers REVCOUNTER, THE LUCAS GROUP, SOPHIE GARNER and talented singer-songwriter AARON SHORT.
I am a proud endorsee of PROTECTION RACKET CASES - THE best protection for your drums!

Who I'd like to meet: Anyone into music and musos alike ... ...maybe a pint of Guinness and a chat with Dylan Thomas, anyone who can arrange a jam with Ginger Baker, or a trawl through Charlie Watts' jazz collection! Then again, a night on the lash with Keith Richards & Ronnie Wood wouldn't go a miss either...

There's some alarming information that you should all know regarding BBC Radio. Many of you will recall the Brand / Ross - Andrew Sachs scandal last year where the controller for Radio 2 resigned and the position was taken by Bob Shennan. It seems that Mr Shennan despises most roots music to a point where he has begun to replace the specialist shows that Radio 2 is so well known for, such as Shake Rattle & Roll, with chat shows featuring sport and incidental pop music. Mr Shennan is trying to find any excuse possible to axe Mark Lamarr completely off BBC Radio and I believe other specialist shows that feature DJs who hold a passion for real music will also receive the axe.
Long gone will be rock'n'roll, rockabilly, blues, reggae, ska, soul, vocal group, jazz & world music from BBC Radio 2, a station that for several decades has been a national institution. What we all forget is we own the BBC. They're forever telling us it's our station, and so it is. It's a public funded network, and we're entitled to have our say.
If this information means anything to you then you must complain to the BBC and let them know how you feel. Fill out the BBC Trust survey at their website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/
Just imagine thousands of emails every hour to Radio 2. Spread the word, and who knows where all this will end up. It might even be time for another march, but one things for sure, they ain't getting away with it.
