Matt grew up close to the coast in Suffolk, and is the son of a talented artist and music fanatic. As such, he has been exposed to a broad range of influences, but music is the one that has stuck.
Like many youngsters he was handed a guitar at 15 and was soon playing in a band with friends. Before long his own material was creeping into sets alongside the covers the crowds expected.
Full-time employment followed and so, too, the usual excesses of youth, but disillusionment with this lifestyle, and especially with his job, led to his decision in 2003 to leave the rat-race entirely and head for California.
LA became home for the next 12 months and heralded an exhilarating, inspirational and hugely creative period. Playing solo, or often with other artists, and without any safety net or friendly faces in the crowd, Matt undoubtedly found his voice. As his experiences broadened so did his writing, and the results are the raw, honest and bold emotional concerns he now documents in his songs.
Upon his return to the UK Matt immediately invested in a modest home studio and spent the next 18 months writing and recording his debut album ..The Village Idiot... This was launched in August 2006 at the ..Gig in the Park.. festival to great acclaim and interest, and he is already hard at work on the follow-up.
