"By now, everybody knows the story about Mr. Matt Jones drinking an A&R guy into the gutter (literally) at last year’s SXSW. But what many Detroiters might not realize is that Jones — besides being Ann Arbor’s go-to sideman for all things folk and chamber pop, playing in such luminaries as Misty Lyn and The Big Beautiful, Elm From Arm, and Dabenport — is perhaps one of our state’s best examples of nimble-finger guitar plucking and delicately sung laments. Ex-pat Sufjan Stevens should watch his ass."

"By the end of the year, hopefully, Detroit will know what Ann Arbor has known for a few years: Matt Jones is a genius. That's when he'll finally self-release his album The Black Path. It's a beautifully produced and arranged folk-chamber pop record that shares a lot in common with Ann Arbor compatriots Chris Bathgate and Great Lakes Myth Society." - Doug Coombe (Metro Times, 10/22/2008)

"Some rare singers have the gift to captivate at first notes, this is Matt Jone’s case. But this initial attraction is progressively converted into a complete addiction as Matt is offering more than just a great songwriting ability. His unique voice - which could sometimes could be compared to Tom Brosseau - is a perfect match on his rich acoustic concept." - You Crazy Dreamer
"He has a really pleasant voice with a slightly haunting quality to it. His way of singing is much like his way of playing guitar - loose, easy going and almost playful at times. The haunting quality of his voice and the wistful guitar come together to create music that is honestly beautiful." - Guilt Free Pleasure
matt!! hi!! i was just reminiscing about that night in december where you played in marquette. i was watching the flanigan's videos and was (time and time again) taken aback upon seeing the video of the crazed out guy with the old man sweater grinding with his sister-in-law to 'miami' by will smith. not sure if its a memory to cherish or block out. anyway, next time you come to marquette flanigan's has to be opened so more karaoke magic can happen. aaand thanks again for coming 3(?) weeks ago, it was a damned good time!
well that is just too bad! i went to the record lounge on tuesday just in case.... all in hopes. BUT i will try and find you again soon. i love the music sir.
